Quite honestly I am still frustrated about my 2021. Nowhere in their dealer advertisement flyer does it say there is no tune for 2021. In fact they marketed any new ranger as being able to have the performance package 2, which I got. Then after the install fails they say that it is not CARB approved for 2021 yet... no way for me to return as it was rolled into the financing and the rest of the performance package was installed.

What part number are we talking about here? Does Ford offer more than 1 tune for the Ranger? I don't see any "Towing not recommended" statement here. Did they remove that disclaimer, or am I just blind?

They definitely seem to be changing their mind.

last year, no mention of towing:

last month, towing not recommended:

https://web.archive.org/web/20210126105145/https://performanceparts.ford.com/part/M-9603-REB

and today there's no mention of towing again

Like I said earlier I am computer tune stupid, but if I was to by a PERFORMANCE tune I would be thinking of need for speed. If I was wanting a WORK tune I would be looking for something that fits the bill. Just my opinion. Not picking on any ones personal thoughts.

A happy outcome for me, personally, would be if FPP released an updated tune that maintains the OEM and FPP warranties while towing. I would be willing to trade off a nominal amount of power and torque for this. I like the fact that the FPP tune has been developed in conjunction with the OEM and for this reason am inclined to stick with the FPP tune.

I think a specific point which has been repeatedly misconstrued in this thread is that OP (and others, myself included) did not buy the FPP tune to increase tow rating, or to tow outside the stated rating. Most people, per my interpretation, purchased this tune to increase ease/comfort of towing near the manufacturer's limit or over steep grades.

This is why it has been a particular slap in the face for FPP to add verbiage saying the tune is not for use while towing or may void your warranty if used for towing. Personally, had this been disclosed up front I would have likely abstained from the tune or re-evaluated my choice of tune vendor.

The rollout on this whole package has kind of been a gong show. However, I'm happy the package exists, I'm happy with what Ford R&D can do, and I'm happy they seem to be stepping up to the plate.

Like I said earlier I am computer tune stupid, but if I was to by a PERFORMANCE tune I would be thinking of need for speed. If I was wanting a WORK tune I would be looking for something that fits the bill. Just my opinion. Not picking on any ones personal thoughts.
I guess the word "performance" is up for interpretation here. For me (and others), it meant the standard operations like normal driving, hauling, and towing would perform better with the calibration. Now calling it a "track" tune or the like and I would have known right away this is not what I want for my truck.

A happy outcome for me, personally, would be if FPP released an updated tune that maintains the OEM and FPP warranties while towing. I would be willing to trade off a nominal amount of power and torque for this. I'm right there with you. I'm willing to trade off peak numbers for Ford's R&D behind the product. Benny from Levittown Ford (the dealer that sold me my pack) told me in another thread that he has never seen Ford blame their own calibration for failure. In my own (albeit minimal) research into this I have found the same. That's pretty good assurance for me, and I hope it is to others as well.

just read through the thread. Bummer situation that I hope you get resolved. I do not have a ton experience with tunes, but I do know that there are performance tunes and tow tunes. I would not expect a performance tune to necessarily be good for towing. In my mind those are two different things profiles. However, the OP did buy a product that at the time did not state anything about towing one way or another. If I was Ford I would offer to let him return the item for a refund and be on my way. Jeez, they probably have spent more money in man hours already than what it is worth.

I wasted my money on a tune that wasn’t marketed properly and they threw a disclaimer after the fact. I’ll be sending it right back to them once this is all sorted out. I don’t care what you think honestly or anyone else who is making negative comments towards me or what I’m trying to do. I am set in my ways so save your breath. Im getting my point across and I’m informing others not to tow with this.

then why did you make a post about it if you don’t care about others opinions. You seem like you just want to argue to argue. You’re the one that posted this.. we are just responding as this is a forum right? We will be giving you our opinions too. And tbh you have no leg to stand on with Ford and Ford performance. I guess if you bug them enough you could get some kind of refund, but the amount of time and energy you’ll have to put into it just isn’t worth it. Unless you got nothing else to do then sure why not. But a lawsuit over a $900 tune? Yeah bro I hope you have a lot of time and money to spend towards this!

Not looking to argue. ? Looking to inform and update on what FP was doing. The lawsuit wasn’t just for me. It was going to be for everyone who has had an issue with them changing their minds and them not stating the intended use of a product. Apparently whatever I did worked or at least assisted in the outcome we were given.

You can add me to the category of those without much knowledge on tunes. I purchased the FPP thinking a slight power increase would be great for ALL situations. This has been helpful to follow.

I read the thread and maybe I missed it.

Has anyone towed with the Ford Performance Tune installed?
Did the tow mode function as it should?
Any problems with temperatures, shifting, performance, etc.?

Something "not recommended" is far from "prohibited".

Wow. 9 pages of wasting peoples time. Actually, please sue Ford and spend every nickel. Don't let them tell you no! Make sure you use your doctored screen shot as evidence.
