I put the Ford Performance tune on my '20 when I got the truck and haven't touched it since. The Ford Performance, as you know, requires mid-grade fuel and I have not been very pleased with my gas mileage. Additionally, getting a tear drop trailer this summer and doing a big road trip.

Question is: Should I reset it to stock tune prior to towing to improve the MPG a little? I see no reason to burn mid-grade gas for a few thousand miles with a trailer (Only about 1700 lbs but still). I am not running the stock tires; would I have to re-calibrate my tire size in the tuner after resetting to stock?

Any advice you guys have on adjusting the tune would be appreciated. First time I've had a tune on a vehicle and I set it/forgot it over a year ago now, so curious to hear your experience in a similar scenario.

More power should net you better mileage, as the truck doesn't have to work as hard to keep the trailer moving. Also, Ford Performance tune requires premium fuel. If you haven't been running premium, the engine might be trying to compensate and killing your mileage.

My avg gas mileage got better after FP tune install and 93 octane. Average 24.6mpg currently

For some reason really thought it was 91 mid grade, not premium gas… could that make such a big difference? I’m only averaging like 17-18. Granted, I have a level, Prinsu rack and mostly doing city driving. That does include plenty of Highway though.

I’m going to reset the fuel economy and track Highway driving this weekend. Now I’m intrigued.

around here 91 is premium. Some places have 93 some 91 an one place has 92. Sunoco used to offer 94 but it was a lot more than 93.

When you said mid grade I thought you were using 89. You should be fine with 91. Ford recommends mid or premium when towing with the factory tune anyway.
