Mine has just over 2k and my boot is not damaged, but I do notice that it is very stiff and I'm basically expecting this. It is obviously either some type of synthetic or the cheapest "leather" Ford could get.

When mine cracks and has to be replaced, I'm going to see if I can get the old one and have an upholsterer friend make me one in real leather.

I notice that there are dozens of aftermarket boots for the Mustang brake. I wonder if one of those could be made to fit?
Update: Noticed this morning during my biscuit run that my parking brake boot now has a small crack right at the point where the boot flexes when the brake is engaged.

I'll look at it more closely later today when I have time.

Maybe the material has been improved on the replacement part.

You know where this will go don't you?

Upon further inspection, wound up having to replace entire rear end assembly because boot crack required removal of boot, revealing frayed brake cable end, which revealed worn cable guide and ruptured floor weld, which exposed raw metal spring inserts to allow standing water on....but I wanted the stainless slotted and groves 32" rear disc mod anyway for the extra 1 5hp.....

Au contraire mon frère

I am certain that the underlying mechanicals are solid and trustworthy due to the presence of the tailgate damper, which exudes an aura of quiet strength that emboldens the rest of the vehicle.

I am convinced that the boot would have failed earlier if not for the protective embrace of the damper field. :sunglasses:

I am on my third E boot. Truck has 14,000 miles. This one is starting to look like it's only a matter of time. Ford tells me they will just keep fixing it. Trim issues are low on their list of concerns.

Annnd now it's cracked.

Have to take it in when I get a chance and still going to try and keep the old one.

You could use the old one as a damper sleeve...just think of how "important" it will feel knowing that its is a prime part with a fauxther jacket covering!

Hi Terry,

One of the most hated tasks my engineers had to do on a rotating basis with other platforms was feed the Noga heard.

It is probably made out of Naugahyde. Back when most of you were born the seats were made with this. First the sun makes it brittle and then the cold cracks it. Hot in the summer and cold in the winter.

You guys with dampers wont have a problem cause you cant move your brake handle. Sorry I have a hard time resisting, you leave yourselves open all the time. :)

Weeee! Alberta, Canada. I use my e-brake every time I park. Maybe I shouldnt. But I park on a hill and worry my (open) locking diff will allow the truck to slide if I don't. (When it's icy)

Yep I just took mine in to the dealer last month to get a new one put on. Truck was only about 8 months old. I'm happy that Ford fixed it with no fuss, but it shouldn't happen in the first place. Mine was in the same exact spot as yours as well.

Well made it past 1 yr and now I have cracks.
Found these leather replacements - $65. They don't have a stitching pattern that exactly matches ours. There is one seam behind the handle and 2 under it. Would probably talk to them about that prior to ordering.

They either stopped or never actually made these as link no longer goes to this page.

I will try the dealer first under warranty

If you were my age cracks and wrinkles dont bother, much. As far as the locking diff I dont think that it is activated when you are parked with eng off. Turn your wheel towards the curb is what you do when parked on a hill. There is a business for a accessory company. Personalized and exotic leathers for the parking brake boot. Javelina skin anybody?
