Michigan is under a minium 3 week "Stay at Home" order by the Governor for all non-essential workers. I work as a Mechanic for a Construction Service and will be extremely thankful to be receiving full pay and benefits for 3 weeks. No guarantee it will only be 3 weeks, so I will be pinching my pennies just in case. Still functioning within an "On-Call" status with my employer for any emergencies.

Hi Folks,

Our Handicapped daughter works for the Bloomfield School district in Michigan, being laid off by the Michigan Governor. As she tends to the profoundly damage children up to the age of 26, she is now at our condo in Michigan without pay. As she is of limited IQ, she has no way to apply for unemployment so the school system decided she was on vacation. This really sucks as the handicapped are once again tossed aside. We had to cancel her and her equally damaged significantly life partner to cancel their trip to Arizona. I do not care, but we are now out over $1000 for their trip unless we rebook where she has to abandon these poor children.

She does not grasp the situation.

We need to pull together as a country, but Congress has other ideas, so we and our daughter suffer.

Sorry to hear that Phil. Every day I wonder what the next thing will be. We are now essentially on house arrest as we are not supposed to leave our houses except for what is considered important work, grocery shopping or medical appointments - there are a few other exceptions, but they've closed just about anything you could do outside of that, including all state parks.

Every day is a new adventure in this crazy Covid-19 world.

Condolences to those who have been hit by this. For the time being my clients are still bringing in contracts but my luck is going to run out soon if this continues because they will eventually stop building things and bringing me contracts. I stood in the unemployment line after 2008 and I'm really hoping to avoid it this time, especially with a newborn to provide for.

I'd like things to be less locked down but I know it's likely neither my older sisters or my parents would survive infection. My sister had to shut down her business as well. This economic downturn is not a slow burn - this is acute and therefore I hope it's brief.

The good news in my situation is I can't be laid off because I don't have a job. The better news is it is because I am retired. Both my bride and I are retired and drawing Social Security. In her case, she is drawing from mine because she did not have enough quarters of Social Security contributions to quality for any payments from the fund.

As a bonus I also have a pension from the company I worked for for almost 30 years and the bride has one from her working (part time) for almost 25 years for a city government with participation in a Public Employee Retirement System (PERS). So, in at least the short term, we are doing fine.

But I do worry about our kids and the thousands of others who are being drastically affected by the 'Stay At Home' order and are not salaried or have any income for the duration of not working. We all pray that these measures will have the desired effect and nip the spread of COVID-19 to a manageable size. But it DOES require that we ALL do our individual parts and take the necessary precautions.

I work for a company that supplies high reliability capacitors to the medical and aerospace industry. For the moment, we are deemed an essential industry and won't shut down.

Italy has ~ a 10% mortality from the disease so far. I look at that and balance the devastation from bodies rotting in the streets and the loss of skilled workers that maintain the infrastructure to the economic slowdown we are currently experiencing. It could be worse. We will recover. They human race hasn't been wiped out from disease yet and some of them were up to 50% mortality. Of course, it took several hundred years for society to re-establish itself, but the black plague spurred the Renaissance.

Italy also has the second highest population of elderly in the world.

We getting a dose of what out grandparents went through.
Everything is harmonic...we've had a lot of great years in succession. This is destiny taking back a little.
This country is tough, been through hard times, and it'll get through this. Hopefully we've learned enough about ourselves to weather it.

Sorry to hear of everyone whose jobs were affected. For now, I am an essential employee with the CA Dept of Transportation. I'm in IT, and we have been setting up a lot of employees to be able to work from home. My wife has had her hours reduced by 50%, but hopefully this will only go on a short while. Recovery for most companies, like the one my wife works at, will undoubtedly take a very long time.

For now, I'm an essential employee, working in the "construction" sector. The wife works from home and her schedule is booked through July. If my employer gets shut down, we aren't screwed but we will definitely feel the pinch. Since announcement of the government checks, I have been adamant about not taking the government's money. It might have to be an option if I get laid off.
I avoided being laid off back in 08, I just hope I have the same fortune this time.

Thank you!

@RANGER PRIDE hope you realize that all millenials are of working age and are just as afraid of losing their jobs as you are, with MUCH less time for them to build wealth and savings before this crisis.

I truly wish the best for anyone that gets touched by this, no matter in what capacity. What I think about with this is; will all the testing show this isn't any worse than the flu, with the exception that they still need to find a treatment that works. We forget in a time like this that the numbers are still bad from other things that can affect us. Don't get me wrong, I am not making light of any situation, but the media and social media are really making everything worse. So many people posting and/or sharing false information. I really hope this treatment works to help anyone that this virus gets it's hands on and prevents anymore loss of life. I hope that everyone gets back to work soon without further incidents and life starts looking normal again. Best wishes to all and please be-careful of scams and watch out for those in your lives that you know may be targeted by the scammers.
