In channel I like better, had them on two previous Rangers, but with tint film I was told not to use in channel they could damage film.

I'll also recommend the weathertech in channel. No noticeable wind noise. Nice clean look.

Never heard that before. We tinted windows and used in-channel visors for years with no issues.

I have the AVS tape on (like subquark posted pics of above) and and there's a slight wind noise.
A co-worker has the ones that recess into the channel and he says he has no wind noise,
not sure if i'm going to change kinda use to it and just turn the radio a bit louder.

Has not at all damaged mine. As I recall, the outside of the window will touch the inside of the shade. Since film is on the inside of the window you'd think the film would remain undamaged. Mine is undamaged and unscratched.

I have run AVS In-Channel on my 94 Ranger, 2000 Explorer, 2013 Nissan Altima & 2020 Ranger. No wind noise or whistle that I know of. Some of the F150s had issues with the window sensor seeing the in channel and reversing the upward movement but I have not had any issues on my truck. I have had a few very minor scratches on the top of glass but I have to be looking or I don't notice. If you go with in channel make sure you leave the windows all the way up for at least 24 -48 hours depending on instructions. I installed on my Explorer & 20 minutes MIL rolled the window down before they had time to seat. That caused ALL kinds of problems. ?

The shop that installed my tint told me that.

I'm not questioning that at all.
I'm just relaying my personal experience and including a little critical thinking.

In my experience...

Cons for in channel: May cause scratches on top edge of glass. May also interfere with auto roll up features.

Stick ons: don't cover as much. Need to be regularly inspected for looseness. May detach without warning if conditions are right.

Pros: they all allow a window to be cracked open to let fresh air in, keep heat/rain out.

Can't comment on wind noise, as in my experience with opening windows is always the same; Can't hear **** cause wind is blasting into the cab.
Ya in-channel shades scratch the #*%! out of your windows. Won't get them again.
