I was talking about a true single cab, not a half cab like the supercab
Those aren't available in a 2019 / 2020 Ranger.

I have the crew cab, I have a wife, baby in a car seat, and two dogs. Plans are to add another baby, and the truck will act as a family vehicle so we don't have to buy an SUV. Little cab just wouldnt cut it. The bed is fine for driving stuff around, and if I ever need to haul I can borrow the f250 long bed from work.

I got the crew cab because the passenger space was more important then the longer bed. now if it was available I would have gotten the 6' bed with the crew cab. If I didn't have grand-kids and if it was just me and the GF the super cab with the rear seat delete is what I would have got.

Supercabs certainly are far more scarce and harder to find in the trim you wish than the crew cabs are. Supercabs are clearly taking over the SUV space.

I wanted the supercab because there's usually just the two of us, and we have another more comfortable car for when we have more passengers. On delivery, the first thing I did was pull out the back seats. I love the suicide doors that make loading and unloading the back cab space quick and easy. The extra foot of bed space is a bonus.

I solve problems.
I wanted a supercab for the longer bed. I looked a long time to find a base model, supercab, XL, 4WD. Not a common truck I can promise you.

Seeing my truck being used on fleets now so maybe in a couple of years they'll be more plentiful.

Is that what you ended up with? Literally the first Ranger I looked at was a XL supercab 4WD and that’s what I bought. Do wish I had cruise control though lol

Exactly what I bought. I liked all the fancy options until I looked at the price tag. I purchased the ranger solely for the drive train which is the same regardless of the trim package.

I've got a few mods done so far on what looks like a bone stock XL. It's pretty funny to drop the hammer next to a mustang or the like and see the reaction.

Right now I wish I had the rear locker. Considering the ARB at some point.

No regrets here! Probably would have gotten the crew cab if my ex were still part of the equation, but the supercab is 100% what I wanted. Bonus: nobody wants to ride in the back!

Heck ya! One of the things I love when planning a trip with friends.. nobody says “hey Tyler let’s take your truck!” It fits my wife, my daughter and I just fine in the rare case we don’t drive my wife’s SUV. Also a 5’ bed would drive me insane..

And yes I don’t get how people pay $35k or more for a truck like this just to have some bells and whistles. I have found the abs system to work well when slipping up a hill. I’m sure a locker would be nice though

I went one step further. I ordered mine without the back seats. :)

I think the supercab is a better specific purpose vehicle, I.e. if you work out of the truck, or want to set it up for overlanding, etc. But for most people, most of the time, the crew cab makes more sense as a daily driver. For the average weekend warrior, most home depot runs, etc., the 5’ bed is fine. I recently hauled this 7’ cabinet and a 6’ bed would not have offered any particular advantage. I would have had to strap it in the same way.

I got the crew cab for kids, dog, passengers, etc... but I also think they look better proportionally. I think the older trucks looked much better with ext cabs and I actually used to hate how the crew cab trucks looked back in the day.

Its all about fads. SUV is nothing but a station wagon/van shrunk for gas mileage mandates. 4 door trucks are cars with open beds. It depends what you want and what the goverment has mandated. The pu is not for farmers anymore. People have more toys to haul around.

SuperCab owner here. I've never liked crew cabs.... their proportions are wacky.

Heck... I wish an 8 ft bed was available, I don't know how folks get by with just a 5 ft bed? I guess because most folks don;t really haul much, except passengers?

Here's a thread related to the rarity of SuperCabs I started back in Sept 2019: SuperCab Rangers are Rare Here, How About Your Location?

Guess it really depends on what you do mostly. I never had much of a problem with the four foot bed on my previous Sport Tracs with what I do with beds.

Exactly. The rise of the SUV and then Crew Cab trucks was ironically instigated by the CAFE standards that all but outlawed large cars like station wagons that were the standard family haulers of the '60s and '70s. The demand for vehicles that could carry 4+ passengers plus their gear remained and led to the rise of the minivan in the '80s and then SUVs in the '90s which were not subject to the same fuel economy standards that passenger cars were.

Then around a decade ago as large SUVs began morphing into smaller "crossover" models, consumers again started looking for larger alternatives. At the same time, changes made to the CAFE formulas by the Obama Administration made it easier for manufacturers to meet goals by actually making trucks larger with modest fuel economy gains. Hence the rise of the crew cab, which has largely been replacing more expensive large SUVs and are more utilitarian. Where I live, crew cab trucks on the road have outnumbered large SUVs for years now.

It's just another example of how government regulation in opposition to market forces ultimately results in perverse outcomes, in this case even larger vehicles that the regulators envisioned.
