Fill up at 1/4 tank but I try only filling to 3/4 full hoping that gas gets cheaper next time I get to 1/4 tank only because of current gas prices. I know the math probably doesn’t work out in the end but it makes me feel like I am winning.
mind you the last gamble I took last week was bad. Gas jumped over night from 2..01 cdn / liter to 2.24 cdn / liter the next day. Should have filled up the night before?

1/2 tank unless it’s a really busy week then when the light comes on.

My Ex used to wait till it was on empty, with the digital gauge reading 0 before looking for a gas station.

She once ran out of fuel on top of a two lane bridge with no shoulder. She essentially blocked one way traffic between two counties for over an hour as the only other bridge was an hour and a half north of that point.

Even still I am sure she is still running it on fumes…
That is my nightmare. Being stuck on a bridge. Especially without shoulders.

If your shoulders were missing, chances are everything above them would be missing, too. And, you’re worried about running out of gas? I’d want to know where my shoulders and all were…. Just sayin’….

They’re saying buy end of summer we should be seeing $6 bucks a gallon average for gas. So high test will probably be $6.75 a gal ?
I saw some clip recently that CA has those prices now.

I was watching one of the business channels the other day and a guy named Paul Sanke (not sure of the spelling, but an energy industry analyst that seems to have been pretty spot on recently) was saying that oil could hit $200/bbl if China changes course on its Zero Covid policy and starts to open back up in a meaningful way. Not good.

the gas stations around me are always higher in the morning than the evening.
is it because cold gas is more dense and therefore they don't want to lose revenue on density losses?
or is it because they know the schmuck late for work will pay whatever price just to gas up fast and not be late???
It’s the schmuck. But I wish it was like that - the price I quoted were both night time prices. In BC I think they like to just screw us 24/7 when it comes to gas (regardless of which party is running the province!)

It's almost that now here! Jumped up almost $0.40 the past couple days.

I start considering it when I get below half a tank. So if I'm around my preferred fill up spots, I'll go ahead and fill up. But I really get antsy if 'miles to empty' gets below 100.

I know this has been brought up in other mpg threads but I don't think we've ever had one dedicated to this. I usually fill up when a 1/4 tank is left but with gas being so high now I've been filling up right around the 1/2 way mark. It's just a little less painful even though you're spending the same amount in the end. I had an ex who'd run it down to fumes!

So are you conservative and fill up early or adventurous and live on the edge??

I truly feel your pain. I filled up the Jeep today. It was mid-grade and at the Chevron station but 14.889 gallons cost $98.25. $6.599 per gallon. California gas tax is going to increase again in July.
holy smokes... no wonder so many California folks are moving to other states. Please tell them to leave the crazy cost of living behind before they leave California.

I believe the folks leaving California are not the folks that are pleased with the manner in which the State is current managed.

Edit:
I would leave if my circumstamces allowed it, but in the mean time, I just grind my teeth, wring my hands, and shake my head in wonderment of it all....

i agree. i will not get political but its pretty clear to see something is not correct in how the state is running things. i feel bad for yall, i simply could not survive in cali. everything is too expensive or restrictive for me. its a shame, california is full of places i wanna go and things to see. i really want to drive my ranger on all that public land off road too.

I usually fill up when about 1/4 tank, not good to let a diesel run down too low, to much risk of condensation water, and chance of sucking up any crap in the bottom of the tank. Only takes a teaspoon of water to destroy a common rail diesel pump. Price here yesterday is ~ $2.05 per litre for diesel. Unreal, a year ago it was $1.05. 80 litre tank, truck does about 10 litres / 100 Km - its getting expensive to just drive to work!
