My first Ford that I owned myself was my 1983 Ford Ranger XLT with dual gas tanks. My second car in high school was a 78 Mercury Zephyr that someone had put a 302 BOSS in at some time. Man was that thing fast.

And of course my first car was a 1978 Dodge Omni.

Man I come from a Ford family. I learned to drive in an 84 escort. First car was a 63 fairlane I bought out of a field for 750 dollars. It became a drag car and then got me a sweet 86 EXP haha. Then 86 gt mustang then Ranger love came in with a 93 XL, 95 XLT, 98 XLT 4x4 (my first 4 wheel drive). Then family started so a 05 sport truck adrenalin. Loved that truck. Then a Nissan slipped in with a 15 frontier. and now back home with the 20 Ranger. My favorite of them all

Interestingly enough my first Ford had the same motor, 2.3 Turbo

But it was not what comes to mind first, the Mustang SVO

It was the lesser-known variant - THUNDERBIRD TURBO COUPE!

Had about 1/3 the torque as the Ranger
My dad had both a turbo coupe and a Svo mustang. They were both cool cars. He also had a turbo exp believe it was a 84 with a 1.8 turbo.

This will undoubtedly bring some feed back.

It was a 1956, Ford Custom 4 door, with a 312 CI P code engine (dealer installed, two 4V carbs?). As far as I know, only 10 of these were ever build. Originally, the Kansas State Fire Marshall's office ordered it as an intercepter. When my dad bought it (state auction) in late 1956, it had less than 3,000 miles on the OD. I wish I never got rid of it!

Hi Robert,

The good thing about both of the 2.3L motors was the Dearborn Shell molded crankshaft.

They were awesome cars. Drunk driver took out the turbo coupe and my mom wrecked the svo in the snow on her way to work. My dad was devastated. His first cousin Steve ? worked on the design team for the svo. He also worked on first gen probe. But wouldn't brag on that one haha

My first Ford was a 1989 Ford Escort GT. Bought it used in 1995 when I got out of the Marines. Lasted me 9 months before the engine blew.
Bummer about the escort. Thanks for your service.

Nice, I had a 78 Zephyr when I was stationed in Alaska in the mid 80’s..
Installed a set of hooker headers, 2 and. Half inch exhaust, the widest tires I could fit on the stock rims, B&M shift kit.
I embarrassed many Buick Grand nationals and GT mustangs with that car.

87 Mustang GT in charcoal gray with a 302 and 5 speed manual. I had my dad order from the dealership while I was serving in the Air Force in Germany and it was waiting for me when I returned home. Loved that car. I'll have to dig out a picture since it's pre digital era. ?

My first Ford was a 1982 Ford Futura POS. MPG in the teens from the straight 6. Leaked/used a quart of oil a week. As a 16 year old, I did my own body work and left a thick coat of bondo on the lower door exposed. It was a $500 dollar beater car. Oh yeah, those were the days, driving it around as a teenager in the 90's
