Hi Sam,

Something like you have is likely a haul away driver dropping a chain on to your hood. The folks are uncaring as they get paid for delivery, not condition when delivered unless really blatant and in most cases they blame the Railroad shippers. Sad situation...

Back story, We had a Vice Presidential show at the Dearborn Proving Grounds which are across from the engineering center. One of the trucks to be shown was in Florida at our then test track before we sold it off to Harley Davidson. Somehow I was needed to receive this truck from the haul away company on Saturday. This "important" truck came in with the nose up position but the roof was caved in on a bridge abutment somewhere on the trip. I freaked out but the driver was non plussed... Damn I thought it was below 12.5 feet high when I measured it. So call to higher ups in truck and he told me...this has to be fixed somehow... This is a KEY vehicle. So called my buddy at Livernois at his home and he got his troops to arrive at Livernoise and tackle repairing the top six inches of the roof. Removing the windshield and it was bondo city. Then to repaint the area and I picked it up Sunday night and delivered it to the Test Track for the Monday show. The guys worked night and day on it and it looked great...for the VP review...then the bondo gave way, but the review and drive approved the 400M engine with 4 barrel carburetor for production...Whew!

This is just one of many behind the facade called Ford for which I got involved for some reason...

Best,
Phil
Phil,

I am sure it occurred in transport as well. Having ship a few vehicles across the country on my own - all to familiar with it. Also worked for Ford as an engineering intern. Worked at Wixom assy as part of the Supplier Quality Engineering team...worked on a refresh of the Town Car and launch of the new continental at the time. After coming to Detroit for school from the southwest - ultimately could not stomach living in SE Michigan the rest of my life - so off to the Navy I went...where I oversaw far too many last minute heroic efforts on similar scale as your story - great one that it is.

First thing when I parked the Ranger in the garage is adjust the parking laser to help locate the vehicle as it was so much larger than the 07 Ranger. Then I loosened the left front fender bolts and pulled the fender into better alignment with the hood... Then into the house to celebrate the new purchase with a glass of Scotch on the rocks....

best,
Phil
Hopefully that was a great single malt!!

Yep! GlenLevit 12. Not a fan of heavy peated Scotch. We pick it up at Costco for a good price.

best,

I did a thorough inspection on mine when taking delivery at the dealer. Everything looked good and as of 11,xxx miles IS good. I just saw the other thread about gap variance between the front of the bed and the back of the cab, guess I'll have to check it out later. After working as a carpenter for 25 years, my eyes are very good at spotting gap variations between panels. Everything looks good. My blend date was a Wednesday, if you follow that theory...
But of course I did miss one thing. I have a very small spot in the middle of my hood, close to the windshield edge, and it looks and feels like a little pimple or something in the paint. I'm guessing it's a tiny piece of debris in the paint. I didn't know it was there until I waxed my truck the very first time in March. I got my truck last October so I guess it's been there all along. Very easy to miss unless your fondling every square millimeter of the truck (like I do regularly, lol).
Oh well, I guess I'll just live with it? Is it even worth taking it in to have it repaired?

The Tremor build includes 302A, technology package, tow package and a block heater. Approximately 70% of the planned mileage will be towing a 4K TT.
Here is what I have seen so far:
  1. Upfitter fuse box. Make sure it is attached and working? Pull the main cover off and look for a 100A fuse supplying power to aux box?
  2. Inspect paint, door jams, seems top to bottom.
  3. Loss shock bolts? Tie bent tie rod bolts?
  4. Interior for rips and tears.
  5. Test drive - road vibration from tires or front diff?
Immediate add ons for my intended use:
  1. Ford trailer brake (Dealer installed).
  2. Spray in bed liner. (dealer recommended aftermarket due to build delay if ordered from factory)
  3. Dog/seat covers (recommendations appreciated).
My rear passenger door alignment was off. Didn’t notice until I got home from the dealership. I dropped it off last week for aftermarket part install and they sent it to service once aftermarket was complete. I was also experiencing shuttering/vibrations at low speeds. Did some googling and found out about the axle pinion angle issue. They measured the angle of the pinion and bingo it was out of spec. They are currently waiting for the parts to come in so they can fix that issue and I should get it back in the next day or two.

I only have ~750 miles on her.

** 7/4/2023 edit**
the dealership called me late on Friday afternoon having the truck a week and apparently attempting the TSB to shim the u-joints… not sure if I’m getting the run around or not because the dealership claimed they installed the shim kit and test drove the truck, but acknowledged that they still were experiencing the same vibrations. They said they were going to reach out direct to the engineers at Ford to determine a solution. They said it would take more time because of the weekend and holiday. However, I got a call back Saturday around lunch and the dealership said that they were informed that there was no TSB to address the vibration on the Tremor package because the tremor has CV joints and not u joints. Therefore, shimming doesn’t work. So was what I was told on Friday about attempting to shim accurate? Did they really attempt the TSB for shimming the u-joint? Or is that even possible considering the tremor has cv joints? What’s going on? Anyways, at the end of all this, their answer was basically that this vibration I am feeling is characteristic of the truck and there is no solution.

I took the truck back from them because I am tired of waiting… what should I do next? Any recommendations? I love everything about the truck, and I understand that everything isn’t perfect. Maybe I’m being overly sensitive since this is a new vehicle. But then again, this is a new vehicle and I’m paying for something to be reliable. The vibration isn’t crazy noticeable but it is there… I’m concerned about long term wear and tear now… will this vibration only become worse and is it going to wear out components such as the cv joints that I’m going to be expected to replace?

The bed wasn't torqued down correctly. Not sure if it was actually shifting around if you pushed on it, but it was one of two things that made noise. It took it a bit before the bird noises started up. Ford thought it was the shocks at first... nope. Bed torque specs and ebrake cable combined to be super annoying.

Annnnnndddd..... It was stupid late for the dealer by the time we finally closed the deal so I got no "here is how to use the truck" and didn't think I needed it. Then I thought I was losing my mind when the auto-high beams were flicking on and off in my neighborhood. No idea the truck had that.. missed it on the window sticker, etc. That might be a neat feature for the country types but lights and reflections cause the system to go bonkers where I live.

Dent on the hood. Hood not aligned on driver's side. Small paint chip on driver's door handle. And the trim around the windows were a pain for my tint guy. Lucky for me he's a perfectionist.

Oh, that black sticker between the front door and rear. There's some small air bubbles underneath. Found a free bolt in the engine compartment. Connector for the 4WD was loose. And finally the drivers seat kinda moves a little. Only does it whenever I'm backing down the driveway then turning left.

Oh, I forgot the windshield has this weird wavy defect if you look towards the right from the driver's seat.

Front passenger door slightly misaligned, and came with LT265/65R17 tire upgrade but one of the tires was the P rated tire with significantly different tread. I didn't catch it until my first rotation at 5K miles. After a bit of haggling, dealer took care of it free of charge.

Both wiper arms were indexed incorrectly (driver's side wiper blade was smashing into the A pillar). L/H passenger door misaligned. Tire pressures extremely high. There's more, but these were the things I noticed right away.

Front crash bar cover plate was chewed up from what I assume was a ratchet mechanism during the hauler trip. Not sure I would have mentioned it to the dealer if I did catch it though

Hood overhangs the driver-side fender a bit.
All four windows are loose as ****
couple random screws found in the door pockets
Some weird bubbling inside the door lip, I noticed this the other day but not sure if it's new or from day one? Paint seems solid so thinking perhaps it's welding slag or seam sealer that got painted over.

Will post pics later.
