What I can't get use to is it's 9:40 pm now and it's still light out here. We're getting up early to go over to the east entrance and I can't sleep when it's this light. lol

Good move...parking away from the pine tree.
You don't wanna spend all day tomorrow getting sap off your truck.

That's the best part of living out this way. Between 4 & 4:30 it starts to get light and you can still see at 9:30 in the evening! But winter daylight hours aren't so great.

Yup, up north it is light out at that hour but in winter it is dark by 4:30.

Chris, when I first pulled in I was like pine trees! :surprised: Those pine cones would've dented the whole truck too. lol

I've made that mistake once a long time ago. My F150 was parked under a customers pine tree and the whole thing was covered in sap by the time I left work. Talk about a long tiring lesson getting it all off. ?

It was 10:00 when it finally got dark, that's crazy. I'm glad it's not like that in AZ. The last thing we'd want in the summer is 2 more hours of sun and heat. ?

I remember back east it would get dark in the winters around 4:30 and I hated it. I guess that's why so many have Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) I know I did living there. Mostly from the long gloomy winter days.

Where in CO are you going and when? We have a decent size group in the Denver Metro Area.
Andy, We'll be leaving SD and driving through CO on the 30th. We're staying in Colorado City for the night then heading into New Mexico. Unfortunately I won't have a lot of time to spend there this year like we did last year. We really loved it there so we're thinking of planning next years trip around staying in CO longer.

That and causes Dave's new friend/stowaway to travel a bit from truck to tree to get building materials.

Those last 2 fill ups were averaging 70-80 mph, actually nothing really phases her anymore lol. But it is more fun driving it tuned but you all know what happened with that fiasco.
When someone is asleep they have no clue.

I hope you’re not coming back soon. We‘ve just started with some of the drywalling…

IMG_4322.jpeg

We had to move that wall to cover up for a hole we made in the floor - you can’t even see it now. There were some services in the wall so there isn’t any a/c in the living room anymore and when you flush the toilet, that 3” drain pipe isn’t hooked up either. We’re not sure where it goes but we couldn’t hear anything draining and didn’t see any leaks, so it should be fine.

Oh, and that patch in that other wall is from where we closed off a window - we figured you had plenty of those already and didn’t need that many. Don’t worry, we boarded it up and you can barely notice it from the outside…

IMG_2732.jpeg

In fact, if you didn’t know there was a window there before, you’d never know we closed it up.

Anyway, things are coming along but I always use way too much drywall mud and I’ve got to go get cleaned up.

Safe travels, and don’t worry about the house - it’s in good hands.
Remember putty & paint makes a carpenter what he ain't. :like:

One drawback to renting an Airbnb is you don't know the physical address before you rent it, you only see the general area. While this one in MT is nice (it's a full 3 bd/2 bath house all remodeled) it's right by a set of RR tracks! That darn train runs all night long and of course there's a crossing about 100 yards away so each time one comes it has to blow the horn 3-4 times.

Last night was the worst as it seemed to run every 45 minutes so needless to say I got no sleep. We were going to get up early and go over to the east side of Glacier which is a 90 minute drive to the Two Medicine entrance. The other two entrances are over 2 hours away because the Going To The Sun road is still closed and you can't cut through the park yet. So after getting only 3 hours sleep I washed the truck and bought ear plugs instead. lol

I felt like Joe Pesci in the movie My Cousin Vinny. ?

So here is what you need to do, Dave.

First you need to invent a time machine to go back in time around 40 or 50 years. Then you need to grow up on the wrong side of the tracks somewhere where it is really hot and humid so that you have to sleep with your windows open at night since you are too poor to have air conditioning. Perhaps, if you are lucky, you might have an attic fan, but keeping your windows open is key to the success of the plan.

Now the tricky part is ensuring that you picked a time and place close enough to a busy rail line so that the constant buzz and clatter of the train's wheels clicking over the joints in the tracks is audible enough so that after 3 or 4 years it becomes a comforting sound, like a warm glass of milk before bed or a heavy quilt on a cold winter's night.

Then get back in the time machine returning to present day. THEN you go back to the AirBnB, and the sound of the train will lull you to sleep.

Easy peasy. ?

Mark, That's a great idea. I'm all ready to go! ??
