Had a coworker retire and build a new home in Prescott. He pretty happy there.
I haven't been to Prescott in a long time and even then we really just walked around the center of town. But I've taken the back road from Jerome down 89A through there and it is a really nice area along with Chino valley and Cottonwood.

I think my coworker is near that area. He mentioned it.

Almost bought in Chino Valley. It was our first choice, actually, but was just not to be.

Have another friend in Cottonwood who used to build houses there. Liked that area too.

We’re looking there too. We used to live miles from stores and city areas right here in in OC CA believe it or not. In one of seven log log cabins in the county. Almost sounds like a Borg now that I say it. Anyway both of us think we should be close to convenience. It really depends on locality and services.

That's similar to my house back east. It was in a small town (8,500) and I had 3 acres and while there were neighbors everyone had a good size property so you had your privacy. I do miss that but everything was at least 12 miles away or more. We had a small grocery store in town but it wasn't that great and I only went there for stuff in an emergency.

Where I live now is the total opposite. lol You're stacked like cordwood on top of your neighbor but I do like that everything I need is within a couple miles from me. The main grocery store (Fry's) is only 3/4 mile from me and we walk there often. Unfortunately as younger older it's almost imperative you're closer to Drs now.

The reno’s coming along great!

I was going for that “open concept” look and didn’t have time for engineers and permits and all that stuff, so we ran into a little structural issue around the stairs.

Don’t worry, I know a guy - in the meantime, I found a garden rake and a painter’s extension pole in the garage to prop things up until he can get over here - maybe tomorrow, maybe next week.

Don't use that paint extension pole to prop up the stairs, Dave @AzScorpion will need it for the touch up painting.

Luckily I got our timed reservation this morning. The main entrance which is The Going To The Sun Road is a 3 day pass and the North Fork is a 1 day pass. There were 390 passes for the GTTSR and they were all sold out within 2 minutes! You really have to have everything ready (I use my laptop with 2 tabs open, one for each pass) and be quick. Also make sure you're already signed up on the Recreation.gov site along with your payment info. They do take Apple Pay so that made it even easier/quicker to check out both passes at the same time.

My house here is near everything. Just 5 minutes to all I need tops. I like that. When we build our beach house not so much. But it will be more peaceful there. So guess you give up some things for peace and quiet.

This is why it's so hard for us to find another place to relocate to. Annie's always lived in the city and likes being close to everything and now I'm getting use to it. But I really like the peace and quiet of the country and when we rent these places while on vacation that are out in the country she's now warming up to them. But like you said there's always something you have to give up one way or the other.

Me personally I'd rather have my peace and quiet and be farther away from noise and traffic. I think I could suffer with a new beach house.😜🏖

Today was pretty much a washout with a 100% chance of rain in the area. Tomorrow looks more promising (right now) with only a 10% chance by 2:00pm. We'll start at the west GTTS road entrance and try to hit as many areas in the next 2-3 days there as I have the timed reservation. Then we'll head to the east side where you don't need a reservation until July. They say there's some really great hikes and a few waterfalls over there and you're bordering the Continental Divide.

It's been non stop all day with a few short breaks in-between. Any more rain and I'm going to start growing mold!

It's the one from the Ford catalog which is a rebranded Bakflip and it's actually a lot nicer than I thought.I bought it from the dealer and had them instal it before I got there. It has the rubber bumpers on the last panel so when you flip it up against the cab it won't scratch it. It also has two adjustable prop rods so when flipped up you can hold them up in place while driving with it up.

We went through a pretty good storm the other day but it was only for 20 minutes or so. Today it poured on/off fora good 3+ hours with the wind wiping around. I figured if it was going to leak today would've been the day. ⛈
I have the same one. The water channels out quite well. I get a few drops at the tailgate sides. My only complaint is you have to lift the rear panel to shut tailgate.
