We went on a hike at Custer State Park today. It's an old fire tower on Black Elk Peak which is the highest peak in SD. I was a mix of easy to moderate but there were a lot of high step towards the end and that really bothers Annies knees. Not so much going up but coming back down and while I did 18,374 steps she's did just under 24,000.

Needless to say she's exhausted and we won't be hiking for a few days. But I bet if I said "let's go shopping" she'd be in the truck faster than I could get dressed!?

Coming into CSP you go through this tunnel and there's several of them throughout the park. It's a really nice 6 mile RT hike with some great views of the Black Hills on your way up.

This bench is roughly at the 1.5 mile point going up. On the way down I couldn't get Annie off it she was so tired. lol

Gotta love the Black Hills!!! I hope Annie gets better, brutal hike. Dangling that shopping carrot just may make for a speedy recovery with privileges.. nice pics as always Polish Eagle!!!

Fire lookout towers are in spectacular places. I enjoyed being a lookout volunteer and met people from all over the world who would come up to the tower.

After the lookout you come to this tunnel and that takes you up several stairs to the tower. I think this is what did Annie in but she did say it was worth it. Just don't ever take me up there again. ?

After the tunnel you come into this little opening. The stairs continue up to the left but there's a window to the right where you can get a good pic though it as shown next.
