The dealer might have installed and locked the FPP to your VIN# but might been reluctant to download the performance program until the vehicle had reached a minimum drive time/mileage or break in period. They should have informed you of such!Thought I would add my experience with the FP tune...
I took delivery of my truck back in June '21. A local dealer delivered it to me with the FP tune supposedly already installed (I had added it to the vehicle and rolled it into the purchase price). I only just plugged the ProCal4 that came with my truck into my computer for the first time tonight (after installing ProCal v2.88) and when I open the ProCal4 to view files it only shows the stock tune, and not the additional performance tune. I then went out and plugged it into the truck and it's not showing it on the device then either. When I click on "performance cals" I get the screen showing "no calibrations found". I have attached a screenshot from my computer and a few pics from the ProCal4 while connected to my truck. Seems I never actually got what I paid for. I also can't use the Voucher ID that came with the device to get the calibration software because it was already used by the dealer (I assume it was the dealer, but it says it has been used).
Has anyone had this happen to them? I think I'll first try contacting Ford Performance tomorrow to see what they have to say, as I am not so trusting of the dealer to fix it now. Sure glad I paid the money to have them do it
Went by the dealer yesterday. I explained it to them and later after I was home the tech I dealt with called me up and said he had been in touch with Ford Performance and determined they had received the tune file back at the time but had no idea why it wasn't loaded onto the ProCal4 or my truck. They are however going to make it right. Going to have access to the tune file linked to my own FP account so I can load it onto the device and bring it into them to flash it onto the truck.
Make sure the firmware on the ProCal 4 Calibrator is up to date. Was told by people in the know this was causing the loading issues.
Thanks for the tip. That was the first thing I did when I took it out of the box. Maybe the dealer hadn't done so before attempting to load it.
The instructions for the ProCal4 tell you to run the updater first before attaching it to the car. Mine had an update when I got it.
If you have the ProCal4 device from another vehicle it will be married to that VIN. You will have to contact FP to get it unlocked and likely for a fee. You certainly won't be able to use a different manufacturers device like SCT or Diablosport.
Do a check on the air filters. Those let too much dirt through. Comparisons show oem to be best, surprisingly.
Do you have to manually set this back before you flash back to stock?
If you run the K&N filter in the stock air box it will not let too much dirt through. I've run that setup for more than 50K and there is no evidence of too much dirt getting inside the box. As far as OEM being better....I think not.....MAYBE with a factory exhaust but with aftermarket my Ranger is breathing 50% better than a stock setup.
