Keeping it under 2,000 RPM is the big key to MPG gains. Or drive like you are towing something very heavy.If you really want to save gas, slow accelerations from stops is 1,000% more effective than the SS function. You can add 5+ mpg doing that.
My SS was originally deactivate via nightlight but then I used Forscan and don't plan on turning it back on until I decide to trade/sell the truck and give the next owner that option - or they pry my cold dead hands from the steering wheel - whichever comes first.
I filled up recently and slowly accelerated on the way home and hit 21+ mpg on the way home - short 5 mile drive, usually I'm in the 17mpg range.
