A few days ago (while driving in Mexico, of course) was the first time my Ranger was up above 100 mph. At 105 there is a pronounced hum/vibration that feels like it is coming from the drive train. So I have a mild shudder when starting from a stop between 8-12 mph, and a pretty strong vibration/hum that comes to say hi above 100 mph.

Just for the gee-whiz file, at this point.

At least your vibration is above the normal cruising speed range. I get it right around 75 mph.

I initially said the shudder on my truck did not improve after the TSB. After driving the truck a little more, I now feel I was wrong. I believe the TSB did help some, but the shudder is still there to a smaller degree. So I changed my vote.

My 2019 has a stainless shim, but not a half inch shim. More like a 16th of an inch.

So I must have seen that on another truck I test drove. I just checked mine and on the Drivers side I have two shims one around 1/4 inch and the other even thicker. On the passenger side there is only one.

I could be wrong, but I think those shims are to correct the driver's side lean. There was a thread on that but I can't find it.

Finally got a chance to check mine on Sunday. Drove the truck around for about 30-45 min, non-contact temp reading on the pan showed 198f and the dipstick fluid level was at the middle of the diamond, under the 5 mark. Guestimation has that at least 3/4 to 1 qt. low on fluid. There's no sign of leaks anywhere, so it'll be going in to the dealer to have them check it and add fluid so there's a paper trail on it. That way if there are any issues with the transmission later on, I have proof that the transmission was underfilled at the factory.
any luck with the fluid being the possible fix to this?

I have a 2019 2wd XLT with just a 2.5 level spacer in the front. I get the shudder feeling/sound during hard acceleration while turning. I tend to drive it like there’s no tomorrow, but once I felt/heard the shudder for the first time it freaked me out so much I pulled over. Made such an awful noise I thought I broke the tranny. Not something the dealership will be able to replicate unless they’re going to go hotdogging in it. ?

but other than pushing it or having the truck “under load” I don’t have a shudder. Just makes me wonder if it’s going to shit out on me just after warranty. Whether it’s from the fluid or Driveshaft angles it doesn’t feel good knowing it’s more than likely not just hurting those specific pieces of the vehicle alone.

I think I mentioned this in here earlier but my son is a tech with GM and the dealer he works for is also a Dodge/Ram dealer. Some of the Ram trucks have a shutter issue and they drain and purge the transmission fluid and it fixes the problem. That is the official Ram fix for it. Not sure if its the same thing we experience or not.

This thread scares me.
I was going to vote: No shudder, but I bet I get it right after voting.
Man, I hope I didn't jinx myself just writing this........

:whew:

Same as me regarding the slight improvement.

Do you experience any high speed vibration?

I am planning to buy a Ranger later this year. This thread is concerning.

For those with the shudder, was it there from day one? IE. If I test drive the truck well before purchase, will I know if the shudder is present in that vehicle? Otherwise, is this something that is developing over time?

Thanks for the thoughts.

Mine has been since I got it. I would think if you don't have it you probably won't.

you sure any of the safety features, like traction control etc weren't making themselves known to be active??
yea. I turn the start/stop and traction control off when I hop in every time. I like to push it and feel it. I laugh when crash collision warning comes on ?? I only run with the proximity thang on.

Ford don’t need to know lmfao

I think most of these that exhibit the problem have it from day one. The issue is unless you are on a fairly smooth road and are looking for it, you are likely to miss it initially (especially in a test drive scenario). In my case it was after I drove it for a while I detected the vibration. At that point you become aware of the exact speed and conditions (brisk acceleration will make it more noticeable) in which it is prevalent so it becomes noticeable all the time.
