In the spirit of unity I'll add the first 'mod' my Ranger got was disabling ASS with an LED night light in the AC outlets in the back. When I got the tune Unleashed added disabling the ASS on top of the other enhancements. 😉

I actually considered the AWD Ridgeline (2019) before the RWD Ranger and frankly liked the street ride. My wife loves her Honda but didn't like the interior of the Ridgeline, especially the parking brake. The deal was i was going to buy a truck she would drive and it surprised me she didn't like the Honda. The only other mid-sized truck with a center parking brake was the Nissan and I have a long held distrust of mechanical durability of the brand. Thankfully (I think) dodge didn't have a truck in that class, Toyota were uncomfortable and too expensive. The Chevrolet Colorado was all truck and no comfort for us. Without considering any upgrades the Ranger ticked off the most boxes and in retrospect the most rewarding to customize. And cost effective.

Now that it's paid off and I've got the extended warranty I'll likely keep it at least another five years.

I guess everyone's threshold for dealing with mechanical issues and/electrical gremlins is different.

Update:

Just got off the phone with Ford. Starter solenoid dead spot they think.
Submitting claim to warranty and ordering parts. Possibly get $40 per day reimbursement for the rental so that will cover half if they agree to it.

Meanwhile, because pics or it didnt happen...

I had to run it through the car wash. It was nasty and I can't be having nastiness in my garage. Bad enough having a Taco in there!
I’d have to have parked that thing outside. Poor garage.

Chris, your garage is as clean as your truck!

However, I don’t like the looks of that garage door disengage cord.

I was backing into the garage at my new house and wasn’t really thinking about things I should have. The plastic t-handle on the disengage rope caught the Rhino Rack on the roof of my topper. I saw pieces of the t-handle flying through the garage, and suddenly saw the garage door lurching downward toward the hood of my Ranger!

Just as quickly, the door stopped. I dared not move the truck and carefully got out to have a look at things. Holy crap - the t-handle seemed to have caught a crossmember of the rack, disengaged the door from the rail, shattered the handle, leaving just the cord with a knot on the end.

The door was on its way down when, somehow, that knot found its way into the wide part of the t-slot of the rack where t-slot nuts are inserted, rode the track a short distance until it hit the end of the slot and came to a sudden stop, preventing the door from slamming down on my hood.

That’s some knot! ;)

I was able to grab the cord and pull the door back to re-engage it with the track and drive out of the garage.

Another member of the forum had his shark fin antenna ripped out by the disengage cord in his garage.

Now, the cord in your garage looks harmless and I’m not sure how it might cause any issues but if a disengage cord can do what mine did, anything can happen.

I didnt buy any extra insurance, so trying to protect it against having to replace any parts.

I took the handles off the ropes because we have glass windows in the garage doors. Didn't want anyone to be able to latch onto the handles and break in.

Does your truck still have the ASS active?

I know this has to put extra wear on the starter, it makes me wonder if this could be a contributing factor.

Also, I wonder is smacking it with a hammer would've gotten it going like the old starters.

You don't see that much with the PMGR starters.

It's "active" but I dont use it. I push the button right after cranking it and before fastening the seat belt.

I always buckle up first before pressing the ASS button. Because you never know what might happen…. 🤷‍♂️

Flat spot on the solenoid? Been many yrs since I've had to replace a starter, used to be just the solenoid could be replaced and the solenoid was simply a coil with a plunger that engaged the starter, so maybe the ford techs meant flat spot on the starter ? Don't hear much about starters failing especially at lower miles, another manifestation of ford supplier quality issues? Would really suck if it happened in a remote area.
