I just had my first weird issue yesterday. Was working on bed to prepare to install new cap so backed down driveway to turn around and back back up the drive. Was about 22 degrees and I didn’t warm truck up. Starting to back up the drive (up hill) and just went out of gear. I could reverse on flat but not up my steep drive. Tried a few times and decided to drive around the block to warm up a bit and then all was good.

Prior to changing to the TW driveshaft I had an "incident" where, I slowed down to about 5mph, and then abruptly throttled up, something down under rang like a bell (a clang!) as it released and popped back into gear. I suspect it was the lockup converter clutch plate disengaging and then trying to reengage. Whatever it was, sounded thin and cheap!

I don't do anything abrupt with the 2020 Ranger any longer. I think the firmware is not fully sorted out, and still has unresolved issues.

Isn't our ten speed pretty much the same as in the F150? I took some comfort in hearing that. Are 150 owners posting about their failed 10 speeds? After driving a RAM 3/4 ton auto for 6 years or so and then to a 5 speed Chevy Allison, I am impressed with the performance of the Ranger auto. Glad I went with the extended coverage. Peace of mind is worth a thou.
F-150 owners hate them too. Mustangs as well, though not as much usually.

I have an extended warranty too, just hope I never have to use it, though I suspect I will. I would rather rebuild it myself, and I have the tools and know-how, but I should not have to. This is ridiculous. And before someone asks, GMs are having these issues too. I have seen the same complaints mostly on the Camaro forums. I looked around and asked...

This transmission just has 2 too many gears, is over-complicated, and just half-baked IMHO.

If it were 2 too many gears Chevy uses an 8 speed version. Maybe just over complicated?

Mine has issues as well. I live in Utah and lately the morning temps have been down in the teens. When you start the truck and put it in reverse nothing happens until you put it back in park and then reverse again. Bottom of the driveway, turn the wheels and the truck acts like it's in 4WD with tight corner braking. Going in a straight line it slams into each lower gear when downshifting. All of this disappears when it warms up but it shouldn't be doing this in the first place and I'm wondering when and if something is going to go boom. My kingdom for a stick shift!

I've been saying this from the beginning. Why build something to answer a question no one is asking?
