Looks like you're not out of the 5 year window by much so have the dealership ask for for assistance.

This is my biggest concern with my truck, I have the extended warranty.

Maybe one of these Ford contacts may help point you in the right direction. I would not expect them to do it for free but they can likely do a good will discount of some sort due to just barely being out of warranty by time.

https://www.ford.com/help/contact/?gnav=header-support

The upsetting part is that Ford knows they have an issue with the trans. I believe some people are starting class action lawsuits in Canada. I have seen ads for attorneys and Ford transmission issues so maybe look there.

I told my mother to get an attorney involved because she had a Subaru engine go out just outside of warranty but she had warranty work orders written on the engine so this was a little different. Subaru customer support at the dealer and corporate was horrible so she finally gave in and got the attorney. Repair ended up being fully covered and she got money on top of it, which of course the attorney got some of but still worth it.

Adding in, if they do not give you a break, a private shop will clearly do it for a lot less. It is "just" a transmission. Not like they are tearing the engine open. As others shared, the parts at Levittown are not bad. Even if shipping is $300-500, still way cheaper. I can see a shop charging 8-12 hours but lets me honest, a good tech will get it done in way less than 8hrs with a lift.

Believe me, the repair will be cheaper than a new or used truck. I would not consider a used truck with today's prices either. Unless you don't need a truck and go sedan, dont see any way to save money.

The hard part is that the transmission needs to be married to the truck, which requires ford specific tools. Make sure the shop has the programming tools needed.

The shop I went to charged 10 hours of labor at 110 per hour. Ford warranty replacement allows 8 hours for replacement. Do the math and the dealers are charging 300 per hour.

Hey guys,

My Ranger has been shifting rough the past few weeks so I took it to the dealer today, who said the CDF drum has failed and will be $5600 to replace that or $7,800 for a new transmission. It’s a 2019 with 59,000 miles…. So I miss the warranty by one year. Any advice on what to do ?

I’m thinking I’m just gonna sell the truck as is for a big discount. Can’t afford an $8,000 repair
Keep in mind the $5600 is mostly expensive shop labor/hr. I reckon this is 2/3 profit to the dealer.
Have the dealer print a detailed repair estimate to see their actual labor charge. Then negotiate a trade in discount based on this.

OP should be able to have a new transmission installed for $5600 or less. I guarantee you that if he traded it in that they would drop in a new transmission instead of repairing it. Probably would cost the dealer around $3500 parts and labor.

Dealership prices are crazy, and they are busy just doing warranty work.

Out of warranty parts have a considerable markup, more with proprietary parts like trans parts. Do a web search on any p/n and you will get a glimpse. There is room for negotiation on parts and labor. Dealer workload determines how much they will bend.
You don't always get what you ask for......unless you ask for nothing.

I might buy that now just to store in the garage.
The core charge is $1K. I thought about doing the same thing but the real price is $3500 + Shipping and taxes (~$4K for me) , and I assume that the warranty clock starts the day of purchase/delivery.

Really, mine has had two replaced in 73,000 miles. Maybe you will get to experience pulling out at an intersection and hitting the throttle and nothing happens, or when the transmision shifts up to the next gear for ten seconds nothing happens when it shifts out of the lower gear. Or maybe very harch up shifts and down shifts.

How much for shipping? ?
I wonder if that's also the price at your local Ford dealer?

I haven't checked but that would be nice.

Been there, Done that! All before 12K miles! Cured at 18K miles. Smooth sailing since, now at 27K miles and still on the original transmission.
