Oh, and one more thing: When I was trying to address a persistent chatter from the torque converter clutch in the BMW I came across a product called Lubegard. I'm not a big snake-oil enthusiast, but that stuff is the exception. It does wonders.
I currently use their 'Platinum' at the recommended dose in my 10R80.

Trust me, 110-120* outside temps, 6% grade for 6 miles, with 6k+ in tow on 34's. Will do it. ?
Wife and I would NEVER go camping or tow the trailer in that type of temps. We don't generally camp in July/August. We had one experience several years ago where we met an RV caravan in Az. for a 30 day trip......met in August....temps over 100 degrees for days and had to run both ac units in our motor home 24/7.
Never again !!!!

I live in LA, so going out of the LA area east means crossing a desert...? That trip was actually helping someone move, and it was in early spring after sundown, not even summer. When we got to Utah after midnight, it was in the 20's ?

I did discover one thing, when buying some replacement oil for my transmission the guy (was a third party oil company) said that although they sold a Ford Mercon LV equivalent, he had had feed back that many of the auto trans shops had said that for the Ford 6R80 - which is actually a ZF aka BMW box built under license, that they had had a lot of success with their BMW rated oil. I gave it a try for my oil change, end result , the box has never shifted smoother or run more quietly, torque converter lockup which used to be jerky is as smooth as silk. Go figure.

glad its working for you, I'm sure you are aware you voided your warranty in the big picture. Was the third party oil company concerned with that at all? or just selling you some oil?
Not sure which specific BMW oil you used so we cant make a comparison, but as usual, where you gain somewhere, you lose elsewhere. Hopefully the losses won't be something severe down the road.

I've seen his stuff before. pretty knowledgeable.

But I do notice, when a Ford tech says something people relate and agree too, they are held high on a pedestal. Any other time, Ford techs are worthless and can't be trusted to do even a tire rotation. I get confused, which is it? Please help.

In my experience, the dealer techs are the ones who don’t have any idea what they’re doing.

The small shop/independent guys generally have a much better grasp of everything under the hood in your vehicle.

How much are you using and did it help?
LG calls for 1oz per qt. The first dose I used was a full 10oz bottle, and then every time I change fluid I use the 1oz/qt dose.

46k, smooth as can be.

--Edit--

I just looked back at my maintenance log, I started at 3700 miles.

I agree there a numerous examples in the past on here, Damper Dave used to post utube vids made by Ford techs and a lot of people took the info as bible when in fact most of the vids had inaccuracies and had personal biases. So a mixed bag of useful information with other stuff that was mostly opinions, nothing unusual about that with respect to utube vids but a lot of people on here accept the info as being accurate because it came from a Ford tech - whose credentials I think are never really verified, it could be a bs artist for all we know. One shining example of this is Damper Dave posting a utube vid ostensibly made by a Ford tech about the Ford charging system and how the sky would fall if one disconnected the BMS as it was supposedly "integrated" with numerous systems but it was mostly made up bs.

I hold him in a little higher regard, simply because he's an independent mechanic so he can say whatever he likes, as opposed to the BS that the clown FordBossMe used to post when he was working for a Ford dealer.

Still, best to do your research and form your own opinions. I don't take any of them as gospel unless I can back it up and it makes sense.

I don't know about the ford ulv fluid, but I own a Hyundai and like most makers they require/recommend you use only their branded oem fluid, when I looked into this their fluid wasn't even synthetic and they sold it for $16/ qt, outrageously overpriced. Valvoline max life is a syn fluid that sells for under $ 30/ gal and it's a much better fluid with similar specs to the oem fluid but many feel the Hyundai fluid must be used. I won't hesitate to use valvoline atf in the Ranger when it's time to change the fluid, valvoline is a reputable company with proven products that are reasonably priced.

Does Valvoline even make the ULV? When I was looking the only ULV fluid I could find was the Motorcraft stuff. I saw LV but not ULV.

I currently use their 'Platinum' at the recommended dose in my 10R80.
What is the recommended dose and what is your change interval?

Thanks
