If I had a temp gauge I’m sure I would be panicking over the temps I’ve probably hit after towing in the middle of summer lol. I’m wanting to get one of the plug in gauges that has the app where you can see all the temps.

I’m at 91k. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous about the transmission lol.
I am using the Scan Gauge 3 well worth the cost and simple to install basically plug and play.

C’mon Tripod. You had to show that yours is bigger? Mine has a charming personality.
Yes, but who else has a "Butt Lite" temp gauge?

Well I did do a little bit of data logging so to speak. Now the ambient temp was a full 10 degrees less and I was not pulling but the speeds were the same in a 62 mile loop I never seen a temp over 192 and Coolant temps never made it above 201 and when they did they quickly dropped back down to around 198 to 196. I will be taking a trip to camp in the next couple of weeks and see how that goes.

Your temps seem normal. Shoot, I have even seen 215-220F in stop n go in the Vegas summer 110F outside with just me in the truck, not towing.

Towing I usually am between 220-235F with a Geo Pro 19BH travel trailer. Only once did I see 260F and that was climbing a VERY steep hill going up a mountain in Utah for about a mile, pulled over after the climb and let it idle, temps dropped quick enough. Also, no overheating light came on either, I was just concerned.

The Tremor came with 32" but I put 33" on when the truck has 10k miles. Truck also has a 1" level and 1" wheel spacers that I did before the 33"

I have 60k miles on the truck now, did a trans flush at 35k or so miles. Going to be doing another soon. The truck was purchased with the intention to tow this trailer. We must have somewhere around 10k miles towing if not more. No issues.

I did get an engine replacement at 50k miles though, #4 rod bearing was toast. Foreman said it was just bad luck. I do 5k full synthetic oil changes at the dealer (that is my problem lol). I am guessing just bad luck 2021 covid QC issues on the engine. Glad I never put a tune on it, that was always my fear. May put a tune on it now though because I can't possibly get two bad engines, right? lol

I have never see over 230 because I would rather slow down than exceed this I am set up somewhat like you I am running 33 Nitto Terra Grapplers with a BDS 3.5 inch lift and I tow a OBX 18BHS. I did by today the @Fitzmotor dipstick it is back in stock.

Yeah I keep it roughly around 68-70mph. Always seems to be windy or uphill both ways when I tow lol. Not as flat as Texas that's for sure. We can do the speed limit in NV, UT and AZ which means UT it is 80 so I try to keep it at 68-70mph. Trailer tires only rated for 75. Over 70 and MPG TANKS. Towing in CA being forced to drive 55mph sucks but best MPG ever lol

I traveled 12,000 miles over a year settling my parent's estate, downhill from 500' ASL to 20' ASL, then back. Never pushed hard, I-95 at 70-75mph, and secondary back roads at 55-60mph. many time at night in 60-70F ambient temps.

I didn't have a way to monitor transmission temps then, but my transmission began to fail in that time period. When I finally changed the fluid at 18K total miles it was black as coal. This was at the end of the trips.

I honestly believe that the sweet spot temp range is 160F-180F and I am aiming for a max temp of 205F. I think that transmission life is shortened when temps start climbing above 215F.

I'll be the first to say I may be incorrect, but I know my transmission behaves best 160-200F temps. So I am exploring options on how to keep the temps in that range.

YMMV

Someone that beats the odds. Blew an engine before a transmission!

Right? All this time with the truck I never put a tune on it JUST in case something goes wrong, always thinking the 2.3L is bullet proof for the most part. I figured I would go through a trans eventually and hoped it happened in warranty. On the bright side, at least I got a new (Ford reman) engine at 50k.

I have never seen temps at 160 to 180 out side of warming my 65 mile run to Galveston netted me temps in the 190's with ambient temps at around 84. Pulling is a whole different ball game abate the ambient temps were 10 degrees more and I seen temps as much as 230. Now I am no even close to max tow at 4100 lbs.

I have purchased the @Fitzmotor dipstick and waiting on it to arrive, after talking to a transmission tech I trust I am not going to purchase the deep PPE pan am will go with the shallow pan. The reason behind this is heat sink if you have more oil the it will take longer for it to cool. I went back and forth with th tech about additional cooling.

If you remove the cooler from the factory to install a bigger cooler then you risk having the transmission to cold for operating as designed. From what I understand this is around 200 to 215. Heck to even check the level you need to be at a minimum of 196. Now with that said I am thinking of attacking this from a different angle.
