RANGER_ROCKS: I had the Toyo AT3s on my land rover discovery and also liked them a lot. In fact they were on the top of my list until reading the comparison from Tire rack between them, MT Bajas and the Falkens. The consensus was the Falken was the better tire in my main usage environment. I'll find out friday, plus I have a 350 mile tow with my boat coming up and also a couple of events where I'll be towing my weekend car for some Track time. Im hoping they are exactly what everyone says they are.

Hi N559br. I'm curious what sizing you went with? I was going to replace my General Grabbers LT265/70/17 Load C on my Lariat Tremor with the Falken. However, the Falken only comes in a load range E in that sizing. I'm just worried about the added weight and loss of performance with that heavy of a tire.

I've been very happy so far. I haven't checked mpg yet, but just drove 200 interstate miles unloaded and the tires are quiet and have a good ride. Tomorrow I will be going off road to a couple of radio sites and will report back on how they do.

The Ranger on its new shoes did great on a rough trail this morning. Only a downed tree stopped it.

Those tree leaves in the foreground of the 1st pic make it look like you have a graphic on the side of your truck! :)

Road noise at 77mph is very low. I can have hands free call and no one hears any tire noise. Just filled up and got a little over 22mpg mostly highway 70+ mph driving.

Finally got up the hill after our crews cleared the downed trees.

You will love the Wildpeaks, I went with them instead of the Nitto Ridge Grapplers because of they are much better on wet pavement.
Will the Wildpeak 285's fit without spacers? I have BDS upper control arms so hopefully they'll clear

285 what? We are missing a bunch of numbers there. Also what wheels? Are you trying to use spacers?

I'm trying to fit 285/70R17 Falken Wildpeak AT3/W's on factory sport wheels and I want to know if they'll clear the knuckle, or would I need to get 1/4 spacers to put on the front? I cut the crash bars out, so there won't be any kind of rubbing on the crash bars or fender.

I just upgraded my oem Hankooks with Falken Wildpeaks. I went up one size to 265/65/18's and I'm shocked at how much more stable these are over the oems.
I'm about 1" larger in diameter but no rubbing on the stock height. Love them!

I've been very pleased with my Cooper Discoverer AT34S.' Stock 265/60R 18" FX4
I was surprised at the lower turning effort vs the OEM Hankooks Quiet at hiway speeds and my mpg seems to be about the same, and they are beasts in wet sand!
The second day I had them I took them on a road that was clearly marked Dry Lake Road; not! I had seen the road before on my bike, and decided it was beyond my ability ride, with rough gravel and "baby heads" from what I could see.
About a quarter mile in, the "road" became 2 track, then no track with vague sandy pits and ponds/gullies between the non-trail areas. Started noticing that the other tire tracks in the sand were those of ATV & SxS, not a truck-size track anywhere and I was hoping I wouldn't run head on with somebody running at 40mph; never saw anyone else, thankfully.
I have Terrain Management so I selected SAND, which alters throttle response and keeps the trans in the lowergears 1-2-3. On some ponded areas, I used MUD/RUTS which seemed to further tame throttle response, although my attention was focused on picking up the trail again. The Coopers just soldiered on, providing traction without sinking too bad, and didn't ever break traction. I didn't use 4 low or lock the diff.
4.1 miles of heart racing (ok I'm 74 and parking at Walmart is heart racing) "road"
and I finally reached a groomed township road which seemed like an Interstate.

Ironically, I just had my Tires (Rotate & Balance) at Firestone for my second rotation @ 10,000.
While waiting I was looking at options for when the times comes, the salesman was pushing the Bridgestone Duelers AT Revo 3's. I still have 9/32 on the OE Hankook's so I have some time before I dive into that decision.

I hate buying tires and pulling the trigger on what I hope to be a good tire, for me personally it would be - Snow / Wet Roads as the biggest factor.
It is hard to make a decision on tires from reviews and this forum because every owner will talk up the tire they have installed.
Remember, 30 years ago, installing tires was part of my job duties - back then we still had Bias-Ply with the studs, and I still have a hard time making a decision.
For the most part once you install them you own them, unless you can find the 30-day ride guarantee promotion.

Just installed some Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T's. The Tacoma guys love this tire. They have some lengthy threads with everyone showing off their new (and very large) tires. That said, I did a lot of research on what tires and rims to use as I wanted to keep the weight down. I actually really like OEM Hanooks. They work well on and even offroad for me, but I did want to try something with a bit more off-road performance, without any major setbacks on-road. My 17'" KMC's weigh 26.7 lbs and the 265/70R17 MT's weigh 44 lbs so the hit I took is minimal. After seeing them on my truck, I was pleasantly surprised at how big they look - in a good way. I wouldn't want to go any bigger like many do, b/c I would take a big weight penalty. OEM tires for example are 35lbs.

On-road performance is good so far, and there's no noise, using OEM tires as the gold standard. Off-road, I'll know more this week. The biggest downside I've seen thus far is going from 18" rims to 17, combined with the larger sidewall height can at times make them feel more "bouncy" compared to stock, but I expected there would be a bit of sacrifice. It's really not an issue, but in comparing, I noticed this a bit. It now looks more like a truck and less sedan like (which I like for the street driving). With the change in offset, I got the poke I was looking for in a lightweight rim, but had to drop down to the 17 to achieve this goal. 25-30mm offset would be ideal, but I had to work with what I had. Most 18 inch rims I was researching were in the 35 lb range.

MT 265/70R17
KMC 8.5x17, 18mm offset (OEM is 55mm)
