Along the lines of "well, if he wants to pay us 14 grand, I guess we will do it, otherwise it isn't worth our time".
That's called capitalism. Their business, their choice. If they can't make money on a project, why would they take it on?

What I would like to see is the response from Ford, "In writing, with the EXACT reason the claim is denied". THAT is the only thing that counts. ...........But I repeat myself. The dealer has it, does the OP ???

Thinking about this for a few minutes, and it occurred to me that it should be pretty easy to get a couple more quotes with no expense to you. Just talk to a few service departments, tell them that the oil pump crapped out and took the the engine with it when the situation dictated that you keep driving despite the low oil pressure, and you'll be paying out of pocket since Ford is attributing the low oil pressure to aftermarket mods. That should give you a pretty good idea about whether dealer #1 is being outrageous or not.

For $14k one could pickup a used Nissan Frontier (stock) . Don't think that V6 lends itself to a lot of meanful mods - a plus from an investment protection standpoint :frown:

Also, from a purely financial standpoint, I don't see that the extra $8k to restore warranty coverage adds $8k of value to the vehicle--so I wouldn't even consider doing that rather than just getting it fixed at the best prevailing rate. I speculated upthread (and it seems to be the case) that a good chunk of the quote would be ripping out and replacing everything non-stock at full retail price, and there's just no good reason to pay for that.

"Please just install the motor and add the proper fluids to it."

A good point but they may not be willing to reinstall all of the modified parts. Certainty they would have No Warranty written all over the repair order.

Which is a reason to go to an independent mechanic, not to pay the dealer to do pointless work. The fascinating wrinkle here is the 3rd party warranty's demand that the work be done by a Ford dealer. Time to get out the spreadsheet and figure out how to lose the least money.

Are there any shops that would quote a fixed price for replacing the motor? I'm betting they would say it's so complicated that they will do it on a "time and materials" basis and no guarantee it'll run when were done.

I agree except capitalism is build on another foundational concept - competition. And in this case, it is difficult or impossible to choose another dealer which means he is stuck.

And as far as making money, they are certainly making money on that repair.

This. This so much. I asked a few pages back for a photo of Ford's claim that it was "all the mods". We still don't know why warranty was denied and are just taking OP's word for it without any proof. From what I can see from this invoice is that OP "drove with low oil pressure". If that is the real reason Ford gave then it makes sense why OP isn't over 5 Star's *** because nobody is blaming the tune or the mods. In one of OP's first posts he says he saw the oil pressure light and drove it all the way back home. I still want to believe OP, but my red flags are raised all the way up. I hope I'm wrong, but this could be a simple case of not tightening down the oil plug enough, or simply not adding enough oil ?‍♂.

If that's the case I want you to know OP that I don't think you're dumb or should feel shamed or have your ego hurt by admitting it. We've all done some stupid costly things, whether it be in our careers, relationships or with hobbies. I was going up a grade in my little sh*tbox moneypit racecar and dropped to 2nd to pass another sh*tbox moneypit racecar and immediately gave my valves some good piston loving. That was a whole lot of embarrassment and 5 grand down the drain.

Phil gave the OP specific people to get in contact with at Ford. IIRC they were district level problem solvers. Has the OP exhausted that remedy? It sounds like he's stuck a the dealer level.

And if they are in a good mood on that particular day they (dealer) might even throw in a truck wash - on the house or at least at half price.
