So would you consider modding again or no? Did the failure happen on around the down pipe out of curiosity? I recently installed one and was worried about the radiant heat afterward lol.

I’m so glad everything worked out for you!
I do plan on modding again… I’m considering heading the road Doc is doing… I’d like to make a Ranger Lightning… back in the day, when they had the F-150 SVT Lightning, I wanted one so bad but out of my price range… As far as what caused the problem, I couldn’t tell you… what I CAN tell you, is that I had a flash of ‘LOW OIL PRESSURE‘ alarm then it cleared, then all hell broke loose… Ford claimed ‘all the mods’ and never specified which mod caused the failure… my personal feeling is that the oil pump failed, or something to do with oil pressure failed, and Ford chose ‘all the mods’ to get out of it… 5 Star stepped up and had my back… I will be using them again just for that fact… I’m waiting on the new Ranger Raptor to come out, to decide what path I’ll be heading down next… Good luck with your tuning and enjoy every mod you do to your truck ?

Weird your dealer said no install on FP exhaust. Further more they denied warranty probably on the tune and etc not the exhaust, it was just a cherry on top for the uninformed dealer. I went to a big dealership, I was the first Ranger they tuned . They had no problem forcing their ASE tech to learn how to do it from FP. They also installed Roush CAI and FP exhaust with no mentions of warranty removal. Plus, the FP exhaust IS COVERED BY WARRANTY. I think your dealership you went to is uninformed and lazy.

I agree, a lot of my anger with them back and forth… they left my AFE exhaust on and called my engine covered under warranty, but wouldn’t install my Ford Performance exhaust and cover it under warranty… a lot of bullshit went on with this whole ordeal… it amazes me to this day…

Nice!!!!

Did you go with a 3 inch or 2.5 inch downpipe exit size and why? Thank you so much!

This thread concerns me. I just purchased my BDX tuner and 5 star tunes from stage 3. I have not received the tunes yet.

is this issue with 5 star tunes wide spread? Has it been resolved?

i have had tunes from Lund, 5 star and Brew city boost in the past on other vehicles including EB F-150’s without issues.

I’m just wondering if I should even use the 5 star tunes. I’d appreciate some insight.

It's probably best to read through the original post here. It's long but you. can just read the OP's post and skip the others. This one will get long and dragged out too with opinions. Short version the OP feels that the tune did not cause the problem and Ford gave a blanket statement of " all mods" or something to that affect. There are others running it without issues too.

Shane did take out the warranty from 5Star which did cover the cost but without it he would've been SOL. If you're going to run this tune I would buy their warranty.

Thanks for the reply. I kinda figured it was somewhat being blown out of proportion but it’s always a good idea to be aware of the risks of any aftermarket part. I have had quite a few tuned, boosted and full bolt in cars. My heart just sank when I found this thread. Lol.

I completely understand and would feel the same if I were you and just found this. lol

It just opens up a can of worms for those who don't have the tune or lived in Shanes shoes to throw around false statements. I have the Livernois tune and felt that was the best one for me. There are many good tuners out there and I honestly don't know enough about 5Star but they did step up and help Shane. Just be aware he did purchase their (5Stars) warranty. If it were me I would consider doing the same for the peace of mind. Good luck.

when you talk a numbers game, this is so far the only blown engine we have heard that had a tune.
no idea how many tunes are out there VS total sold units (trucks and tunes)
Its pretty rare at the moment.
Todays Engine health forecast brought to you by RP. Now back to you in the studio Dave.

I installed Livernois and while it was fun for a while, at the end of the day I wish I didn’t just for warranty sake. No issues though, and I’m terribly rough with it.
