Things I feel are missing/or needed on a Ranger

Things I feel are missing:

-Truck-like exterior design
-Truck-like interior design
-6' bed option on 4-door model
-2.7L engine option on 4x4 model
-Greater payload capacity on 4-door model

The only thing that's going to sell Rangers over Gladiators is the price tag. The Gladiator is going to be insane with pricing, likely in F-150 Lariat territory.

Speaking of F-150 Lariat, right now it would cost me more to order the Ranger Lariat 4x4 than the Lariat F150 4x4. I listed the Lariat F150 4x4 below (my region) that can be had for 40k, which is 3k under the lowest advertised Ranger Lariat 4x4 (43K) in my region. I'm sure I can get 3k or so off a Ranger 4x4 Lariat, but that's still more than the discounted F150. If the Gladiator Sport can be had for under 40K, it will probably be my choice, as it has the bigger back seat and a load flat floor. My got to haves are front/rear seating room and comfort (ruled out Tacoma/Frontier/Ranger TBD), towing (ruled out the Ridgeline), standard active safety features (ruled out GM twins) and payload (no go Taco).

I don't really like them. On a truck as small/low as a Ranger, they wouldn't be as useful. On the Colorado they aren't really big enough to easily fit your foot because of the height of the bumper so it's more of a gimmick than useful. They look odd in the 2019 Silverado since they are so massive, too. I don't see why you can't just step on the bumper or get one of those steps that swing out from underneath if you need some help.

You'd be surprised how useful those bumper corner steps were. Given, the top of the bumper wasn't large enough for a stable foothold, the corner steps were perfect, and a few inches makes a difference when the step to the tailgate was about an average inseam of most adult men.

Right now theres a big year end sales push on F150 10k off msrp is being advertised heavily with out the sales push Ranger costs less than the F150.

The XLT package had everything I wanted except one thing. I wanted the start button as an option, but wasn't willing to go to the Lariat for it.

Not that it is a big deal though.

I agree! I don't know why Ford did not include this as a cold weather option or standard on the Lariat. My last 2 SUV's had it & I will miss it! I just joined. I placed my order for a red 4x4 Lariat on 09/12/18 & received confirmation email from Ford on 10/03/18. Also received DORA from my dealership. No VIN# yet!

Can't you remote start your truck with the heat on and in a few minutes have a nice warm steering wheel? I admit, I live in Florida so I don't really see much reason to care about a heated steering wheel or if it'd be any better than having the heat turned up in the cabin?

So I've been planning on upgrading to a new vehicle for over a year now, wavering between the F-150 and the Explorer. Which means that I've been looking at different packages and features that I was starting to get excited about that aren't offered on the Ranger.

Features like:
Powered Rear Window Slide
Cooled / Ventilated Seats
Panoramic Roof*
Heated Steering Wheel
Massaging Seats


*This is the only thing that I actually have on my current vehicle that I won't be able to get on the Ranger, the rest were all things that I was looking forward to on the upgrade.


But I am super excited to be able to have a truck that fits in the garage and around town!

• Wireless cell phone charging

• Ventilated seats would be nice on the Lariat

The lack of a 6" bed option isn't that big of a deal to me. Otherwise I completely agree with you here. The wireless cell phone charging especially.
