Same thing is happening here, well minus the naked guy. lol It used to be a really nice quiet area and you'd never see a spec of trash anywhere. Now (and yes I'll go there) since we've inundated with CA transplants crime has skyrocketed, there's more trash all over and the neighborhood is noisy now all the time. I heard this from locals when we were in South Dakota and in Utah all complaining about the very same issues there. Now I know not all those coming from CA are like this but sadly a lot are and it gives the good ones a bad name.
My small mountain town in SD is being destroyed by investment firms buying up all the houses and turning them into short term vacation rentals. The city council needs to do something about it, but they haven't yet. There is nothing wrong with making huge million dollar homes up in the trees a vacation home, but when they start doing it in town where we are already limited on parking it's a mess. I now have one across the street from me and I am just waiting on the huge pickup and trailer with side by sides taking up the whole street.

Tourists and their side by sides around here are a whole nother issue. Ugh.

One thing we loved about South Dakota especially Custer where we stayed was the lack of commercialism. There were no big box stores, no Walgreens or Burger King just all Mom & Pop places. I really hope they don't ruin that state as it was our favorite and brought us both back in time to a much better place in time.

Yeah, I just disconnected the powerlock connector inside the tailgate. 5 minute job. It's another step to open the tailgate, but I've also got a locking retractable bed cover, so I'm already getting the keys out for that.

My reasoning is that if someone breaks into the cab at least they'll have to work a bit harder to also get into the bed rather than just hitting the unlock button. No regrets and now it's built into my behavior; I "always" lock the truck, even between visits when it is parked at the house. That way I know it is locked and don't have to lay there and wonder/worry after going to bed.

as above.
the only other option would be to open up the tailgate and disconnect the wiring to the lock.
that would mean the FOB will never open your tailgate and you would need to use the key all the time.
Don't do that on a 2022 or you won't be able to lock it at all. Lol

Speaking of thieves. This guys car horn is rigged up to sound like gun shots. They were going to steal his ride until…
I'm surprised they didn't all. pull out a gun and start firing back. lol How funny would that be, they're trying to steal a car and then get busted for firing a weapon on top of theft. ?

Would be a neat little module to make, require 2 or 3 unlocks within 10 seconds to unlock the tailgate, but allow the lock signal through always. Or even just some diodes on the wires to the power lock actuator so it will still lock with the lock button, but you have to use the key to unlock it.

Hey not sure you were aware, but in your dash cluster under Settings-Vehicle-Locks-Remote Unlock, you can select to unlock just the driver's door on one key press. The second press unlocks the tailgate and rest of the doors.

In my time on R5G I've seen 5-10 of these threads. I haven't seen ONE about somebody actually having theirs stolen.

In fact, I've never even heard of tailgate theft being a thing till I came here.

Take common sense steps to protect your property and you'll be fine. Garage, locks, lights when outside etcetera.

If these don't work, you should strongly consider moving out of whatever shithole you live in.

My hard lid locks the tailgate too, if setup that way.

So while tailgate locks/un-locks with central locking, you can't open tailgate unless you unlock the hard lid with key.

Think a few lids have this feature. Obviously buying a hard lid is a big step to fix a small issue, but it works.

Good morning Ranger fans
I have a 2019 XLT. I have a question is there a way to keep your tailgate locked when you hit the button on your key fob to open the doors? I tried playing with the settings but I just can’t figure it out.
thanks in advance.
Mike
I would really like to figure out something similar. I have a solid Diamondback cover and I would like to prevent someone from simply smashing my window and tapping the unlock button to open my tailgate (granting access to all my goodies). I’ve played with it a bit and can’t seem to find a way to make sure this scenario can’t happen.

Wouldn’t that kill your back up camera as well?

this is true.
someone might break into your house and steal you 5yr old 60" TV
and knowing you likely replaced it with a brand new 75" will come back and relieve you of that as well.
Nothing a little aeration won't solve.
