Is there anyway to disengage the rear tail gate lock? I'm tired of getting to the gate and finding it locked, which in turn makes me walk back to drivers door and unlocking all the doors and gate with the door button. What a PITA.

I just walk to the passenger door and touch the handle. Has to be at least two steps shorter :like:

Or I just use the key fob if I am really lazy.

I kinda used to that scenario now with my previous F-150. Tailgates in, and around Charlotte NC are a low life's bread and butter. Best I keep it locked, or it won't be around to long. At least with the Ranger tailgate I can use the remote instead of fumbling with the the keys when I carrying stuff.

With that said there should be some wiring that runs to that latch. IDK for sure, but there must be a plug somewhere you need to unplug if you remove the tailgate.

Hi Jim,

You are correct...there is a electrical connector that must be disconnected to remove the tailgate. There is a dummy plug in the glove box to keep dirt out of the connector as well!

I unplugged the connector, I took the plate off on the bedside of tailgate and it's right there to the right of the handle. I used electical tape and taped off the plugs.

I just installed an additional tailgate lock because of tweakers that will steal anything they can.

My work is with bees, and many times have loaded hives in the back to move into fields the next day. I know one day a tweaker is gonna try to open one and get a nasty surprise.
