Oh God , another damper thread . This is about as far as I'm gonna read this one . I've got too much work to do today as I'm filling in for someone on vacation and there are different people watching me than usual :)

The old trucks did not have sensitive cameras in the tailgate or electronics in the tail lights that do not like excessive vibrations over time . I laugh at the naysayers who themselves purchased a truck that has power windows instead of a manual crank that works just fine . I'd bet most are too weak to drive a real truck 5 miles without power steering , brakes and air conditioning also ,LOL
The absence of a damper does not mean you have to let it free fall though. It's very light, and to unlatch it your hand is in the perfect position to control the fall.

Lock solenoids that have been getting slammed in car doors for decades, and a no moving parts camera sensor aren't exactly sensitive electronics.

Damper-no-more.

….Damper is now proudly displayed somewhere deep inside a dark garage cabinet next to our SCab rear headrests.
Mount that thing and hang it up like a proud fisherman!

OR…

Send it to Dave to hang ?

Unless you are Terry (@FoD).
See Al, Terry @FoD is a great example. He woke up one day and finally realized his life was meaningless without a damper. Have you seen how happy he's been since? C'mon Al give it a try and you won't be such a bitter 'ol curmudgeon any more. ?:giggle:

My name is KJ and I installed a damper. I was weak and caved to Dave's pressure but I take full responsibility for my actions and only hold myself responsible.
I have disconnected it to remove the tailgate and shovel a cubic yard of dirt out of the bed so I must not have lost too much muscle mass. :muscle:

Where’s that jpeg with the dampers in a wheelbarrow? I’m gonna put ‘em everywhere. Glovebox, center console, and I know struts are different but the hood needs a couple too! Gas lid? ?

My reply was to the question of letting it fall unassisted though .
No moving parts doesn't mean solder joints and circuit boards don't crack easily .
Opening of the tailgate makes it a moving part :)
I've replaced many a door lock actuator over the years .

It's easy to spot you folk with no damper .....
No damper dirty.webp

Admittedly I did miss it was a reply to slamming :)

Yes, I have finger prints, but the damper people have twice as many because they need both hands to lift with their pencil thin arms, lol.
