The absence of a damper does not mean you have to let it free fall though. It's very light, and to unlatch it your hand is in the perfect position to control the fall.Oh God , another damper thread . This is about as far as I'm gonna read this one . I've got too much work to do today as I'm filling in for someone on vacation and there are different people watching me than usual
The old trucks did not have sensitive cameras in the tailgate or electronics in the tail lights that do not like excessive vibrations over time . I laugh at the naysayers who themselves purchased a truck that has power windows instead of a manual crank that works just fine . I'd bet most are too weak to drive a real truck 5 miles without power steering , brakes and air conditioning also ,LOL
That was your Ranger pleading with you to take the useless thing off. They don’t like dampers.Nope, it's the damper...I removed it in the Lowes parking lot and the crying and moaning stopped.
Mount that thing and hang it up like a proud fisherman!Damper-no-more.
….Damper is now proudly displayed somewhere deep inside a dark garage cabinet next to our SCab rear headrests.
Unless you are Terry (@FoD).Yep, name checks out.
You think AlphaRanga has a damper?
I know, two "t"s is the fish.
This is my situation as well. Once you pick a side, that's it, no take backs.
? Maybe I'll start a damper museum.Mount that thing and hang it up like a proud fisherman!
OR…
Send it to Dave to hang ?
?When hell freezes over and pigs fly. I’m proud of my curmudgeoness.See Al, Terry @FoD is a great example. He woke up one day and finally realized his life was meaningless without a damper. Have you seen how happy he's been since? C'mon Al give it a try and you won't be such a bitter 'ol curmudgeon any more. ?![]()
Where should I mail the damper? ?When hell freezes over and pigs fly. I’m proud of my curmudgeoness.
I'll even send you a 12 pack of this. ?When hell freezes over and pigs fly. I’m proud of my curmudgeoness.
GREAT beer!! ???I'll even send you a 12 pack of this. ?

My reply was to the question of letting it fall unassisted though .The absence of a damper does not mean you have to let it free fall though. It's very light, and to unlatch it your hand is in the perfect position to control the fall.
Lock solenoids that have been getting slammed in car doors for decades, and a no moving parts camera sensor aren't exactly sensitive electronics.
Admittedly I did miss it was a reply to slammingMy reply was to the question of letting it fall unassisted though .
No moving parts doesn't mean solder joints and circuit boards don't crack easily .
Opening of the tailgate makes it a moving part
I've replaced many a door lock actuator over the years .
It's easy to spot you folk with no damper .....
