Being a dyed in the wool free market person, I don't see anything wrong with a dealer selling anything on their lot for anything they can. Just as I never felt any guilt offering them less than what they were asking. I always assumed we either would find a middle ground or they would have to wait for someone else to come along whose middle ground was more to their liking.

I also see the ebb and flow of prices as a normal and good thing. There is an old economists saying, "in a free market, the solution to high prices, is high prices".

There was a used 3k mile 2door outer banks V6 with lux pkg with added lift and skateboard style 20" wheels here local that sold for 74.5k within a week. Was on a used car lot.

If a customer is willing to pay big bucks for a 100% "discretionary" purchase, that is their choice. Gouging would be selling plywood at a huge markup just before a hurricane is forecast to hit. Major difference! If my house is worth $520k and someone willingly pays me $700k am I ripping them off? Bottom line.. MSRP is "suggested retail price".

Sadly, considering the "look at me" society of excess that we live, in some areas (CA doesn't surprise me at all) it's probably a status thing to buy one of these insanely marked up vehicles. "Look at me, I can afford to pay any amount for what I want...I don't need to worry about money! I just paid double MSRP because I want it and I can."

Just like guys that drive around in $70-100K jacked up diesel trucks who probably can't even back up a trailer....or women who drive $80K Suburbans to commute to work, haul 1 or maybe 2 kids and get the groceries. Buying fully loaded vehicles in which they don't use most of the additional options just so people can say, "ooohh, they have the High Country..." They always have some excuse as to why they needed it, but when push comes to shove, it's for attention and status.

It honestly doesn't surprise me one single bit.

Local dealership used to have three or four Broncos listed on their website, all with a $20k markup. They now have zero Broncos on their website.

My conclusion is that these crazy markups actually do reflect the market. A secondary conclusion is that I won't be buying a Bronco anytime soon.

That is just absolutely ridiculous. I understand that the dealership has overhead to compensate for but this is just good ol fashioned price gouging. A fool and his money I suppose…

I hope no one buys it, or anything else from these assholes.
That is not price gouging.

Not saying its not bad PR, but its not price gouging.

And the dealers wonder why Ford is changing the dealership model.

It is funny how attitudes change. My Dad never bought a new car when I was growing up. He would fix whatever he was driving until something big enough broke that it became a no brainer to start looking at a replacement.

Like many Americans in the post WWII era, my Dad did better and better financially, until we were probably soundly in the upper part of the upper middle class. One time, long after I had left home and was building my career, I got a call from him and he said I needed to come by and see his new car. I was stunned and dropped what I was doing to go see the miracle. When I rolled up I saw a 6 year old Lincoln sitting in the driveway. My Dad saw me driving up and came out of the house. He said, "what do you think?", I said, "I thought you said you had bought a new car?", he said, "well it is new to me!" . He then proceeded to proudly explain why it was so perfect.

My poor Mom. :)

^^^^this. ford thinks you should pay this. i think i wont pay that much. if the dealership thinks i should then they didnt make a sale that day. shit, im old enough to remember when the pt cruiser came out and dealerships were marking them up. years later i had to drive a rental cruiser when my truck at that time was in the body shop. my co-workers were laughing at me.

Most of these Bronco with an ADM I've seen are ones that were turned down by the person who reserved it. Do I think the dealers should price them that way, no. But, I also look at it this way. It's their Bronco, and they can put any price on it they want. Then it's up to me to decided if I'll pay that price or not. The dealers that really piss me off are the ones that told the folks that reserved with them that their Bronco would probably be priced at MSRP, and when they arrive they surprise that customer with a stupid high ADM. That's just flat wrong, and has happened many times. It even happened to one guy that had a signed agreement with his dealer. The dealer "craw-fished" on him, and gave him the high hard one.
