I had a GMC Sierra AT4 with one of those 85 hinge, multipart mini tailgate drop down thingies.

I have to say, when we were at a snowy trailhead and I was putting my microspikes or snowshoes on, that little mini tailgate was the perfect height for my butt to sit on. Even better when exhausted from a long trek, getting everything off. With my Ranger (even with my patrician height butt), I have to hop to get up there and my legs are free dangling in a sitting position, no help when putting things on or taking things off your feet.

Good points.
But me? I throw a milk crate in the bed for when I have to do those things.
(This fancy stuff is just more things to break)
Just my opinion.

I have had multiple Ford pickups, but my Hot Tomato red was hot enough in the Tucson June sun to cause me to drop it half way. If I lived in the desert, and it was July, maybe???

HA! My radio only has two knobs. I got one big speaker in the middle of the dash where that tray was and it sounds amazing!

If I could only find a spring assist. Every since the tailgate storage it's like opening and closing a 79 F350 tailgate.
Well, step right up! I just installed a Hopkins EasyLift tailgate torsion spring.

Although it's made for full-sized pickups with heavy steel tailgates, since I installed the Huracan tailgate storage and loaded it with straps, tie-downs and such, the EasyLift is just what I needed for my +60lb tailgate.

I didn't take any pictures during the process, but it was fairly easy to make it fit, and it's a pretty good improvement. The packaging says it'll drop a 40lb tailgate to an equivalent 7lbs.

Here's a couple of pics after the fact. I've got to fab a cleaner clamp set up then what I've got right now and clean-up the hole I cut at the bottom of the tailgate. It's a rectangular hole to allow for a polypropylene pad (made from a cutting board) fitted to the tailgate end of the torsion bar so it wouldn't wear metal on metal against the storage box inside the tailgate.

I tried but gave up since I didn't want to cut more holes into the truck. I'll have to try again since you were able to do it. Did it allow for a slow drop as well?

Not gonna lie , I like the idea of my tailgate being more useful and such , some have a ruler , built in steps , storage compartments , kick ups to hold stuff in place and on and on and I'm IN ! 100% ! Tailgate engineers can reach for the stars as far as I'm concerned... but, I can open and close it fine without assistance, no matter the weight , no matter the struggle ? , you see , for me at least , the opening and closing of the tailgate is about the only "manly" thing left in life (mine anyway) it's often the first thing you do when getting out , or the last thing you do before you get in, it can project "attitude" or let you know what mood im in when opened or closed in a certain way, don't castrate that away from me with some damn button on a fob...
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the 6g has incorporated a ruler on the top edge as well as pop out limiters on each side when measuring. There is also a torsion rod and a factory tailgate damper.
I guess Ford must have finally listened to AZScorpion on the damper!

If they keep listening to the masses the 7G Ranger will have 6 full doors and a 2 and a half foot bed ... I can hardly wait...

Not really, I think the damper is better suited for that, I'm certainly not going to let it drop on its own. The previous lift weight was just over 42lbs. with the storage unit loaded. It's now just 18lbs. It's not as much as I'd hoped it would be, but it is a great improvement. I can one-hand it with no strain. It feels about the same as before I added the storage unit.
