My weeknight routine is to stop at a coffee shop before heading home from work. Stopped tonight but my Ranger wouldn't start. No dash or interior lights at all. It's only sign of life was my phone charger plugged into one of the 12v ports. Tried the key several times, no start. Before panicing too much I thought I'd try the rado.....the second I pressed the radio's power button the truck's dash lights, heater lights, and radio turned on. Tried the key, and it started.
That's a new one to me, regardless of make or model of vehicle.
Any idea as to the cause.

So, basically for your event, you cycled key, Left the door closed.
After a short time period, you pressed the sync button to power-up, this would be the same as opening the door. Triggering the Wake circuit. If I recall from other owners, they tried that as well but did not work.
It is all about timing, for this event.
Just to be sure, check the battery voltage though and have it tested, but I have a feeling this is just the lazy wake circuit.

Correct.
I went through the drive-thru at the coffee shop, driver's door wasn't opened, sat in the parking lot for about 1/2 an hour with the truck turned off. Then, no power when I turned the key to start the engine (no start, no interior lights at all, only the 12v port was working). Hit the radio power button and all dash lights, radio, and ceiling lights came on. Turned the key and the truck started.

Look out! Canadians and their Tim Horton's!!!!

Must admit, been known to drink quite a bit of TM's coffee over the years when I'm up there. But it's still fun to pick on you guys about it.

You sat in the parking lot for half an hour after getting a coffee? To do what? Never mind, not my business.

Clearly this is proof on how the radio fixes every single problem known to man when it comes to a vehicle
Except the defective/poorly designed transmission and high rake of the truck.

If this forum has done nothing else, it has established that the "too high ass end" is an engineering design flaw.

Heads up. This thread is getting ready to go to hell. Here comes Mr. "Frontier is better...."

Ford Designs Engineering Flaws.

Winter is finally here, so I crossed my fingers when I switched the temp from cool to warm. No clicking...whew I'm good until spring as least.

I am just glad not one forum member test drove their truck (wallowing ride, weird transmission) or even looked at it (nose down attitude, panel gaps) before they bought it.
This forum would be a lonely place if we had.
