I have noticed that when parked on a flat surface (like my parking garage at work), when I remote start my Ranger, it bumps backward ever so slightly after it starts. I have a video, but it’s kinda hard to see. The larger the video, the better. Watch the wheel right after it starts and you’ll see it.

Has anyone else noticed this? Or does anyone know what could cause it?

Thanks in advance!

Nice color!!!!
Yeah mine does the same thing too sometimes.
I just rack it up to a oddball thing. Ill know when something breaks exactly what it is.
But mine does the same thing too sometimes. At random.

I would have to test, but I would think it would do this with any engine start, and it is the transfer case transitioning itself to (2-Hi), the 4WD Relays are getting powered when the PCM Power Relay powers (at engine start)
The 4WD Relays react to the 4WD switch position (selected), so it is placing itself into 2 HI or whatever position you had it in at shutdown.

This is a common thing for all vehicles. The parking pawl in the transmission has some slack, and with the transmission internal drag, on start up it moves the drive line slightly until the pawl seats. Not dangerous, just a thing. Set the parking brake if it's an issue.
BTW love the color also, might have to paint my next project that color green.

Yep, what he said. Same thing happens with a lot of motorcycles. First start of the day the clutches need to 'break free' a bit, probably happens from sitting there with pressure on the clutch squeezing all the fluid out so they're a bit 'sticky' at first go.

Thanks for all the input! That all makes a lot of sense.

I was looking through my pictures and realized that I really don’t have many good shots of her and should really change that! The color is really amazing when the sun hits it just right.

I think it definitely looks better here on the Ranger than on the Bronco. The Ranger has more curves which makes it so the light can hit more angles at once as opposed to the flat slabs of the Bronco.

Here’s one from shortly after

A couple after some light off-roading:

And one that really shows the light hitting it:

Hmm, that must be “Son of Cheech”.
Haha we found a hole-in-the-wall burger joint after the off-road adventure and had to give it a try!

Don’t worry, good boy got his own food. He was just finished with it by this point and was looking over our food for “safety”

Mine is 2wd non-AutoStart. Always thought it was funny mine did that at work as well. But mine felt more like it wanted to go forward. And didn't do it when parked at home (on street parking) Now I see. Work was a flat surface, home I face downhill. Oh, I was in mine when it would happen.

So because mine is push to start and you need to press the brake to start it, you wouldn’t even notice it in mine.

Also, I back into my spot at work. Maybe it’s whatever gear you were last in before parking? Just speculating, but it makes me feel better I’m not alone here lol
