The frame is painted but that's it. After a few years it will start to chip and peel. After just one winter in Ohio mine already has a few tiny rust spots forming. Next fall I'll spray it with fluid film to keep the road salt off of it.
how easy is it to apply that stuff? Maybe ill do it this summer. I live in WA and take trips up to mountain tosnowboard where they salt the roads. So definitely more concerned about it vs my lil sedan thats garaged.

It just sprays on. They have spray cans and one gallon cans that can be used in a sprayer. The one gallon can is the cheapest way to go.

Hi Deb,

I moved to Arizona....best decision to protect your vehicle. I delt with salt in Michigan and decided to not take a Michigan vehicle to Arizona...Including my 40 ft Motor Home...

Not going to help you but I just had to comment here...life in Southern AZ has its problems, but Margie and I love it...
I on number 2 ranger the 1st was a 2020 with 3400 miles and it had rust and it was in the south no salt .

Do ford rangers currently have no protection for their undercarriage? Fluid film is something i thought about in future, but figured for now the stock protection should be enough if it had any lol

Here's my truck, after 2 full winters. I have to drive every day snow or not so my truck is exposed to the fresh salted roads. I will be spraying something on mine for this winter for sure.

I had mine done with Krown, a Canadian company, within the first week. Annual applications are not cheap, but it works. Keeps everything in good shape, including electrical connections.

My truck was treated with Krown under coating. NH Oil, and fluid film are also good. Like machinist85 said avoid rubberized or hard under coatings like Ziebart. Once they get chipped there is a way for water and salt to get in and once it starts to bubble away from the truck then it will be trapped sitting directly against the metal. The result is the rust is able to progress even faster than if it wasn't coated and you likely won't notice it until it is too late.

2 days after taking delivery of my 2019 ranger I had it sprayed with Krown rust protection and will continue to do so every year until I either sell the truck or can no longer drive it.

You basically just coat everything you can? Do you have to be careful to avoid anyplace?
Clean the chassis, simply spray with hose, maybe use diluted Simple Clean (or equivalent). Let it dry. Spray on metal surfaces, avoid brakes, try not to soak electrical connections or rubber boots. Fluid Film is lanolin based and safe for those areas but its best to avoid if you can.

On a side note why hasn't every state switched to mag chloride? It has it's own issues but it's better than salt.
