Give it to me straight, how long am I doing to be down? 2 months? More?

Left arm is getting bad, pain getting worse, just woke up and my vertical movement is only about 25% now.

My ortho appointment is finally tomorrow.

OHHHHHH!! Suck it up, mine hurt like Hell!!! Had six weeks of rehab, and it was torture....my other shoulder is getting bad, but it will NEVER be bad enough for me to do that again.

Good luck to you...

I am told there are several weeks of immobility and rehab for that, but that pales in comparison to not having proper use of that arm and still having the pain.
I'm sure you'll do fine, although I'm equally sure you'll be bored out of your mind while you have to work that arm back into shape.

Hang tough!

I did rehab over surgery - still hurts from time to time but not as bad as it was. I assume its for life at this point!
But mine is a partial tear.
Gives me a new appreciation for athletes that have this and play after weeks not months.
Or continue to play and wait for the off season!

I had an MRI on my L shoulder about a year ago and found out that mine is about 50% torn. I couldn't raise my arm above shoulder height. Got a steroid shot and it's much better...more range of movement and less pain.

Last year I did the same and then signed up for physical therapy, PT got my strength and range of motion back.

I had planned on getting it fixed this fall but I’m pretty good for now as long as I don’t pretend to be 18 again.

My initial injury is also 10-15 yrs old, I just keep working through it when it acts up.

I’ve known a few guys at work that recovered in 6wks but the ones that were slackers with the rehab still had problems.

Important that you see a good md - as others mention depending on the severity you may have an option to rehab it, I was able to do with a partial tear, mostly used weights, starting with very light ones and progressing till back at full strength. Shoulder surgeries can be tricky , and some Mds just want to cut , if so you might want a 2nd opinion,

good luck

Well the first time it happened (right side) I went to the team doctor for the NE Patriots with an MRI in hand. He looked me over with me thinking up front I would need surgery. They use a bone shaver to remove some and that’s the fix. He said hold up! Think of this injury like a death. You go through phases and each takes a certain amount of time. Where I was with the injury he said I should give it 3 months more doing the PT. If it still gives me trouble he will do the surgery. Then he says, I highly doubt I’ll see you again though.

He was spot on. My right side now is fine and about 8 months ago left started being a problem. I’m doing my own daily PT and it’s slowly getting back to full range of motion. Do yourself a favor. Go buy a tens machine and after PT do a 15 min treatment. Pain will be gone.

This is the machine I bought and it works awesome! https://ireliev.com/product/tens-ems-combo-muscle-stimulator/

I had surgery on my right shoulder after a catastrophic full thickness tear in 2003. I swear I could hear it go and my arm was immediately useless. Took 4 months to get back to full strength but has been trouble free ever since. The left arm let go in 2017 at age 66 when I was trying to pull frozen lumber off a stack at the lumber yard. I fell hard on my butt and was afraid I might have fracture something. No such luck, I tore 3 tendons and the supraspinatus retracted all the way to my scapula. The ortho doc gave me a 40% chance of success but 5 years later it's as good as new.

Its funny how we all talk about this shoulder than the other! well we have to laugh as we get older.
My right side, I never had looked at, but for a few years could not sleep with that arm above my head. The left side started bothering me with a little more kick .. I googled shoulder hurts when I sleep LOL rotator cuff.
Worst part is I never had an incident where I could say I tore it. I guess I slept wrong - how is that even possible! ???

Co-worker went in for Rotator cuff surgery.

Workman's comp took for ever to schedule the surgery.

All told he's been out for about 7 months. Surgery was about 2 monthsa ago. Last I talked to him he's got at least another 2 months before he's released.

But every surgery/injury is different.
