Worst part is I never had an incident where I could say I tore it. I guess I slept wrong - how is that even possible! ???
Same here. Dr asked when did you injure it ? I have no idea, I'm right handed. Weirdest "injury" I've ever had.

Give it to me straight, how long am I doing to be down? 2 months? More?

Left arm is getting bad, pain getting worse, just woke up and my vertical movement is only about 25% now.

My ortho appointment is finally tomorrow.
Depends how bad it is. My full recovery was around 5 months( there was one upside to this, since I couldn't do any lifting - got into running big time :D even recently got myself wide toebox hoka shoes , probably the most comfortable pair I've ever owned), but it was messed up really bad. Hopefully it's nothing major and you gonna be back in 1-2 months

My co-worker was hit from behind at a red light. Tore both rotator cuffs. She was out 6 months with the first one, then 6 months with the second one. :( But rehab helped her greatly.:)

I had my right rotator cuff repaired in Jan 2021. I delivered mail for 25 years. I don't know when I tore it but everyone I worked with had degraded shoulder use. The year before I started at the post office I coached my oldest son's baseball team an would throw batting practice to 14 kids a few days a week. 8 years later when my twins played I could barely warm up a pitcher since I could hardly throw the ball back the 45 or so feet. I had the MRI in the spring an was told I needed surgery to fix a tear a clean up the joint. I asked if I could wait until winter since I didn't want to miss the summer laid up an I did want to miss the winter working out in the cold. The dr didn't think it would be a problem. Bad move since I extended the tear during that summer. I did the rehab an the Dr said it probably couldn't be repaired again if I reinjured it so I retired after I used up the rehab sick time. I had the top rated surgeon in the area. I also had bone spurs to clean up. I went in to surgery expecting 3 cuts to go in an repair it. I came out with 5 because I extended the damage by continuing to work.

First week was very painful. I was given the good stuff for pain relief but I didn't like taking them. I used one a night for the first 3 nights to sleep. I was in an immobilized sling that had a waist band to keep it held in place. I had to wear that all the time unless I was in the shower. A minor repair you might only be in it a week or 2, I was in it for four. Then I started physical after the 4 weeks. I had to use the sling without the waist band for a few more weeks until I got some strength back. They didn't want me to drive while my arm was immobilized but I did because I lived alone. I drove as little as possible the first 2 weeks or so.

Biggest lesson I learned was how to sleep. They said to sleep sitting up for the first two weeks. I ended up sleeping in the lazy boy at least 3 weeks. I spent a few hundred bucks on an adjustable bed frame thinking I could sleep with it raised up. I hated it. I preferred the lazy boy with a pillow on my lap/arm of the chair to support the arm in the sling an a pillow under my legs on the footrest. I wish I'd spent the money I used on the bed on a better lazy boy/recliner. After 6 months I retired. I didn't think I was in good enough shape to return to work an didn't want to risk reinjury. I didn't feel totally healed until about a year after the surgery. I went back to work a few weeks ago delivering auto parts. I've lifted some boxes that were probably 80 pounds and some commercial truck brake drums there were 70-80 pounds an no problem with strength or pain

Good luck with the surgery an recovery. I was 56 when I had it done. I had a labrum tear in my left shoulder cleaned up/repaired when I was 30. Immobilized 4 days and into therapy after 10 days and back to full strength after 2 months. So your age my play a big factor.

id say about 3 months. start pt as quick as possible and get it moving. pains gonna suck but will go away. hopefully they will get you set up with one of those ice water circulating machines. that thing is better than the pain pills. I had a shoulder injury from a car wreck and pt made a big difference after. hardly have issues with it now unless i provoke it. if your looking into surgery im sure its gone further than the r.i.c.e. and advil approach. several folks have praised eating knox brand gelatin (with chicken cartilage) helps joints. cant prove it but cant hurt i guess.

Depends on if you go under the knife or not.

I had a partial tear, the doc and I decided against surgery. Worst fuggin 6 months I had to deal with. With the immobility I developed scar tissue around the tear once it healed. Deep tissue massages was used to break up the scar tissue to get mobility back. I would take a hydrocodone after sessions from the pain that day. Felt much better the 2nd day after the massages. Did this for a couple months.

Just rolling over in bed I made old man noises from the discomfort. However, I have full function and zero scars because we didn’t go the surgery route. 14 years later all is still good with zero issues.

It depends on what they do. I've had 4 shoulder surgeries, 1 was a laser to fix tears and I was in a sling for 3 to 4 weeks. Worst was when I ripped a tendon off the bone and tore it in half, had it repaired and screwed back on and was In a pillow sling for 8 weeks. 1st surgery on that shoulder was minor repairs and bone spurs shaved off, that hurt worse since the bone takes alot longer to heal. Worth it in the long run.

My left shoulder is fubar. I exploded the bicep tendon and it can't be fixed. They wanted to do a joint replacement but I was told as active as I am I would wear the new one out in 5 years plus have a 25 lb lifting restriction overhead. I opted to live with it until I can't live with it anymore. Cortisone shots every 12 to 18 months helps me a ton.

I have a very high pain tolerance, Aleve tablets help alot. I can't take ibuprofen or aspirin or gel cap aleve, they eat my gut. But the tablets dissolve deeper and slower and have no issues.
