To replace, the headliner has to come down. I had mine done under warranty.

Yes, lower the headliner down far enough to gain access.
The roof molding is attached with (2ea) nuts, 1 on each end of it.

Mines starting to get a little rough under the paint on the rear corner.

If Warranty don't cover it, well DIY with masking tape, sanding paper, and paint of choice.

Had this on mine as well. Interesting it's the same piece and side that failed. touchup paint works wonders particularly if out of Warranty!

I have the bubbling on the drivers side (2020 XLT) piece but it has not peeled yet. So, it probably will soon.
Might try to cover with a piece of vinyl wrap. You will need to get any lose paint off and sand smooth. I used the low gloss vinyl wrap on my Explorer window trim and it held up really well.

Out of all the replies in this thread, this man gets it.

I'm still trying to figure out what genius at Ford designed them this way. When I installed my roof rack on the ZR2 the gutters pop out with a trim tool. They are held in place by by special brackets that hook onto small nibs welded to the top of the roof. The strip itself is industry standard with the rubber covering a long strip of metal.

This really smells like Ford did it as a way to generate extra money "down the road" with their install method.

Seems to me an enterprising type would offer a Euro style roof rail/rack accessories system to upgrade.

I had mine replaced under warranty way back.

Wow, my 2019 XLT has it both on the driver and passenger side.

Neighbour suggested a wrap would be the best fix. My issue is the touch up paint is gloss and this has more of a mat finish.

It look likes it might be aluminum (have not tested with a magnet yet). If so it won't rust. My problem is my office is on the second floor so I see it every time I look out the window....

Yeah, it's aluminum.
