Thats the nice thing about the Scan 3....trans temp is already one of the included parameters.
There was no SG 3 when I bought mine, and I’m guessing they had to figure the code out since we went back and forth on email, but they got it and it works. I’d have to search the forum or email to find it.

I got a Mishimoto deep trans pan for Christmas, I want to put it on but my trans is acting up so badly now I am going to take it to the dealer before I install the pan.

I guess I will be the first guy to see what the dealer reaction is to the dipstick  fortunately I worked at this dealer for 13 years... but that was 22 years ago, but the advisor is still like buddy after all these years.
Ford really needs to step up and correct these transmission issues. I don't mean patch or replace, I mean correct from an engineering perspective.

Ford has had transmission design issues from the very first OD trans, starting with the AOD and the E4OD and just when they get them right like 1996 for the E4OD, they come up with a new crappy design.

Yep. I put 112,000 on my 92 E4OD before it shot craps. ?

Mine is going in on January 16th with the Fitzstick to have transmission looked at. I will advise them and bring the oem stick along if they are fussy about it.

This is where you set yourself back, if you were to try and look at the stock stick fluid level, you would need to wipe it and check it several times for an accurate reading.

If you look, you have fluid all the way up the stick, the diamonds at the 1 have fluid in them, the fluid just got thicker lower down on the stick.

Just know... The replacement stick is accurate to 1/16th of an inch, it is actually more like spot on, unless someone fights removing the stick from the shipping material or shipping damage and it's changed, it's a plug and play replacement.

I have done the calibration test probably 70+ times, out of those I have done the hot calibration test at least 25 times.

That's where I drive the truck WITH THE NEW STICK! get it fully hot, remove the new stick with the TRUCK RUNNING, immediately pop it into the calibration fixture, verify the stick marks are correct to the fixture, then with it STILL RUNNING I remove the trans adapter and check the fluid level with the stock stick to verify it matches the extended stick.

It was through this testing I discovered the hose expansion effect, if you were to do the same test backwards (which is how I was doing it in the beginning) drive truck, check stock stick hot, install extended stick, compare levels, the extended stick reads .080" different, that is how much the hose grows at operating temperature.

So I had to add in the .080" in the calibration factor when matching the stick to the hose, it took me a bit to figure it out the stick/hose temp expansion factors and adjust the assembly so it's correct hot.
I've checked my level now a few times with my awesome new Mike's Build Shop Ford Freaking Fifth Gen Ranger transmission dip stick (hot after a lot of driving, level surface, in Park/idle double/triple check) and .y fluid is between the 4 and 5. I don't know what a perfect level would be?

You are killing me..... the MBS RS-1023 Ford Ranger Extended dipstick comes complete with the correct fluid level instructions etched right on the stick.

"MAINTAIN FLUID LEVEL BETWEEN 4-5 CHECK HOT IDLING IN PARK"

I hope that helps!!

I just copied the factory manual?

As an update for the replacement sticks for the very first batch, the shipping tubes were a marginal choice, out of 6 of them only 1 showed up perfect, 2 were completely folded.

I may try PVC pipe inside or switch to the thick tube that they ship metal in, I'm still working on it!!

Instead of a piece of pvc, maybe try a piece of the split foam pipe insulation. It comes in several inside diameters.....slip the stick inside and slip the piece of foam inside one of those shipping tubes....foam might give it enough rigidity/protection, and the foam is cheap enough....I think like a buck or so for a 6 foot length.

Geez I gotta re-read that then. All I remember is 'do not add above this level'

That's the backside of the stick, the front where you read the level it has the text a few inches up the stick.

The top one is your stick, the bottom one is the updated stick, the same one I will send you to replace your original one, but I have to figure out the shipping.

The thing is, I either need rigidity, or tougher shell, the stick has actually survived in the folded tubes, it's just needing some extra something, I thought that even the fiber tape around the outside.

I am also considering the small square boxes, a rolling tube must get easily damaged in the back of a UPS truck.

I dunno, I'll figure it out, thanks for the input?

I have just received mine in the square box. It was in perfect condition. Not even a dent in the packaging.

That is the entire dipstick assy, it's the dipstick itself that is the shipping challenge.

Just speaking for myself Mike....if you have to, just ship the stick the same way as you did with the entire assembly....attacked to a backing and then inside the box, and charge me for packaging/shipping.
I'm definitely not going to quibble over a few bucks extra, especially with all you have done.

Just thought of something....
Attach stick with some wire ties to a thin piece of wood, like the thin paint stirrers you get with a gallon of paint, but longer, or a piece of 1/2 inch wood dowel and slip it into the shipping tube....
Piece of 1 inch x 2 inch x 8 foot long furring strip is only $1.58 at Lowes, and you could get 2-3 shipping pieces from it....
