If you think the dealer is only going to charge you $74 for a filter and fluid, you are sadly mistaken. And if they ate only charging that little for labor that's barely an hour of labor. Not much of a transmission service.
Whatever it costs, it costs. It's a one time deal, and probably well worth my time figuring it all out the first and only time.

I've only one thing to say. You do you and we'll do us.

Yes, of course. I was just reading these threads and was trying to understand why people would choose and expensive $250 dipstick, or any non-OEM dipstick over just letting the dealer deal with it.

First, I tow a heavy trailer on a regular basis, and like to check the fluid quality on a very regular basis.
Second, to check the fluid on a regular basis is hard to do with the location of the OE dipstick.
Third, if I have to add fluid it is much easier to add it via the B&M dipstick tube which is very easy to locate within the engine compartment.
I have the B&M, and am happy with it.....there are many items that other members, maybe even you, that cost $250, that to me is a waste.....but we each buy what is important to us and our needs.
I hope the OP has success in his design....if it's good, than he will be only the second to have designed one for the Ranger. I looked long and hard to find an alternative to the B&M, but none exist.

OK, let me make this simple. Many of us are retired, like you. Many of us have been messing with cars a long time. We like to know what is going on with our cars. That means being able to regularly check fluid levels and condition. Some of us use our trucks to tow. Many of us also don't believe that an automatic transmission should go 150,000 miles between service. Some just think it is a good thing.

Thank you! I think that answers my question: you do it for maintenance and knowledge of where the level is at. And towing does make a difference!

Count me in too. I'd even sign a waver of liability if that what you need. Better than paying for a generic dipstick and having to makey own marks.
Same here. Hell, sell it as a kit.

'here's your kit of parts, what you make of it is up to you'

I was quoted $94 for an oil change!

$25 for oil + $5 filter + $64 for labor? DIY everytime.
Yeah, that's just a simple oil change. There's a whole lot more the goes into a transmission service and the fluid isn't $4 a quart or the filter $5.

That's a non-Ford website and calls out model years for ROW rangers. There appears to be a lot of varying information on this. And even Ford don't know what dipstick to use. No wonder they can’t get the level right from the factory. Probably why people are have issues.

Knock on wood, mine behaves beautifully.
Re: Video - Car Care Kiosk
Being that I just checked my tranny fluid yesterday, when he is actually pulling the dipstick out and reinstalling it, noted he has a lot more room than I did, I think for video purpose they switched to another truck for that specific part of video.
When he is sliding under the truck you can clearly see the exhaust in the way, and I bet they found it difficult to get a video, so found a F-150 owner, hey you want a free tranny fluid check, we need to video it.

Well now I don't know. I found this one on another thread that says between 5 - 6.
Just to clarify on this subject, as it has been brought up before.
I checked the service manuals for the Ranger and F-150 (2WD & 4WD) 2019-2023

All Rangers - Have it as (Between 4 & 5) - Hot
Since I just checked my Tranny Fluid yesterday and I was right on the (Diamond) between 4 & 5, I will call this the correct level and am happy I was not low from factory, decided to check it with my first oil change @ 5,400 miles.

All F-150's - Have it as (Between 5 & 6) - Hot

So, I am assuming the F-150 might have a slightly deeper pan, not sure. but anyways with checking multiple years on the Ranger they all are the same (Between 4 & 5)

Fitzmotor - Great Work, sounds like you almost got it. If I worked in a big hub with Machine Shop access, I could have probably helped source parts or resources. I have seen some amazing things come out of those shops, and specialized tool modifications.

Count me in for one as well
