@PatrickM I would think this is merely a door latch adjustment issue. Run away as fast as you can from any dealer suggesting to “bend it (the door) back”.

***2/5/2019 Update*** No Resolution with Unhelpful Dealer

BTW I would have said I would’ve been the first but my problems were to use more elbow grease and preference problem!
If anybody else has this problem, when latching back the top rear seat in crew cab, you really need to put some weight into it or it doesn’t latch, pretty much like slamming it! I hope that the latch eventually loosens up a bit so that I don’t continue slamming the seat!
I also noticed that the rear passenger door on driver side wasn’t flushed to the body, sticking out a bit on the bottom, the other side is flush to the body! When I asked the head mechanic and fleet manager they said that that’s just how it’s goung to be! We looked at 2 other rangers that day and both had that flaw! Anyone else notice these problems??
The rear seat latch was one of my problems and I saw that the passenger side rubber had a crease in ir and I finally put my 210lb behind it and slammed it and it closed.

I understand what you mean by the Unhelpful dealer. They have no experience with this and they are selling these Rangers as fast as they arrive so they just don’t care. The service manager told me that the missing ring that holds the ignition has not been reported as a problem with anyone else so it must be my problem along. HAHA! Wrong, they have not had this problem cause the other Rangers they sold were Lariats so they are push button. And therefore don’t have people using the key.

They are cocky with sales of Rangers and don’t care. They only care about the money they are making.

It’s unfortunate that after you purchase a vehicle, shelled out a ton of money and/or signed on the dotted line, you eventually don’t get the great treatment that you had prior to making that commitment. Dealers suck!!!

Btw after I brought my ranger over to another dealership they said the hinges were okay and aligned correctly, the auto body guy took a body light kit and some tools and did a bit of adjustment! Looks better but not super flush like the other side! The fleet manager said if there is a big problem like too much outside noise or debris coming into the cab, they would have to order another door, (it would be hard for that to occur though since all doors have a big rubber seal), but they made a note of it, and sent it over to my original dealer! Something they’ll have to resolve! They also said that they’ll send out an email to the ford plant, if more trucks show up with this problem!
We looked at a couple other vehicles on the lot while I was waiting and noticed couple ford150 with the same issue and even a 85K mustang had the same problem! ‍♂

My wife's 2018 Edge has the same issue on the rear driver's door. It is ridiculous that these things are allowed out the factory door like this. I keep wanting to bring it to get resolved but I know I'd get the runaround like you have (plus her's is a lease, so I'm not super bent out of shape on it).

My rear drivers-side door also is not flush. Dealer sent pictures to Ford and I have an appointment to bring it in next week.

Mine is having the same issue. It appears that the weather stripping around the door frame (Not the door itself) is bulging and this causes the door to hit the weather stripping when closing and extra effort is needed to close the door. I tried to realign the rubbing molding but it's only a temp fix. Have not had time to take to ford yet.

Tomorrow will be one month I've owned my 2021 Ranger. I noticed this afternoon that my driver's side rear door bottom right side does not sit flush. The passenger fine is flush and tight. I opened the door all the way and looked for anything that could be interfering but I don't see anything. I then came in and jumped on this forum to search "side door not flush" and found this thread. I wonder what the resolve would be. I've never owned a vehicle where doors did not sit flush and I've always owned Fords or Mercurys.

I wonder if this is all that needs to be done by the dealership service dept, but I'm not sure because the gap on mine is only the lower right bottom corner part of door.

Hi Val,

I am very disappointed by the final inspection of Rangers at the assembly plant. Something like this should have been caught and the vehicle sent to the repair bays for adjustment.. It is difficult with Covid but not an excuse to ship maladjusted doors. I recommend having the dealer body shop do the work.... I also think you might like to file a formal complaint with Ford Customer Care...more complaints received can put the plant manager on the hot seat to improve delivery quality.

I sure will file a complaint now that you mention it. I will be sure to give the vehicle VIN.

I'm hoping the door just needs a minor adjustment. I'm a bit nervous at the idea of having them fool with it though I admit, from past experiences elsewhere where the vehicle came back with other (although) minor damages or blemishes while in the shop's care.

EDITED to add: I sent the letter today May 28, 2021. Will see if I hear from anyone.

My drivers side door is like this and it drives me crazy. I can hear wind and road noise pretty bad.

my truck is a 2019 with 23,000 miles.

would this be covered under warranty to fix this?

My left rear door has the same issue: the rear bottom corner protruding out a bit. The right rear door is perfectly aligned and flush all around.

Methinks the folks working the left door attachment / alignment station on the production line need a stern talking to.

Additionally, my drivers door (left front) latch is rubbing the strike bar when closing. This is a hinge adjustment issue to correct door sag. If you just simply drop the strike bar, the door will be out of alignment when closed.

Both of these issues were straight off the dealer lot.

If anyone was wondering if new trucks are still being produced with these wonky doors I can confirm. Purchased a brand new 2021 Velocity Blue XLT crew cab FX2 on May 31st. Noticed last weekend my drivers side front door was sticking out like it wasn’t closed all the way. Passenger side was lined up fine.

Called the dealer where I bought it (very small Ford dealer) and they were booked up until June 25th. Called a dealer one county east of me and they aren’t even taking appointments. Finally called a dealer in Atlanta that could get it in last Tuesday.

They had to send Ford pictures of the door and how bad it was protruding. Ford ok’d repair by the dealers body shop. It’s been there since Wednesday. Called the body shop to get an update yesterday. They said they couldn’t get it lined up and we’re ordering a whole new door. Have no idea how long it’ll take.

So as of now the body shop has had possession of the truck almost as long as I have. 492 miles in and not exactly thrilled. Oh, and no loaner car so I’m currently relying on my 20 year old son to take me to work in the morning and my wife to pick me up in the evening. So that’s great.
