WTF? So, this started in 2019, was supposed to be "defective" parts from the Danco, and it's still being put in 2021s? Nice...guess I will be crawling under my truck every few weeks now. I had to do this BS with my defective from the factory 2016 Ford F150 (defective valve guide seals in the 2.7 Ecoboost), here we go again.
Mine took a long time to get parts and I’m in Detroit. The real issue is they just replaced a shaft and seal, but I’m still killing rear brakes fast 2 years later.

I've gotten to the point with mine that I just pressure wash off the residue when it builds up and will change my diff fluid at 50K (I tow). Leak is minimal, just looks horrible with all the dust attached

If it gets worse or grenades, it was in for service 5 times and I have all the paperwork to back it up

Since its not effecting anything else, to me it was not worth pursuing with Ford further. I don't agree with it being a new truck and this happening but that is where I am at

Sucks to see Ford hasn't fixed the issue for the 2020/2021

My 2019 had the driver side axle leak due to the defective axle shaft damaging the seal. I originally took it in to get looked at on 4/19/21 it just got repaired this past friday 7/30/21. Was held up by the non-reusable hard ware that was on national back order the whole time. Will look to see if it returns at my oil changes while on the lift.

Let us know if it returns. I'm at a month and a week waiting, looks like I have a month and 3 weeks to go.

There will be tons of oil on the brake rotor shield and dripping down into the wheel from the diff side of the brake on the drivers side.(most common)

This is what mine looked like with the driver side leak. Dirty oil residue all over the caliper mount and shield, even a small puddle that formed on the inside of the wheel. It seemed after it leaked for awhile during the parts wait it would reach a level where it could no longer make it out of the axle tube.

I was under my truck a few weeks ago looking at the exhaust because I want to install a Borla exhaust.

I noticed the drivers side rear break dust cover was caked with oil and dirt, I cleaned it off to see if I could tell where the leak was coming from. The wheel also had oil slung on it.

I wish I took some pics before I cleaned it. I then found this post and now I know what kind of leak I have.

I am a little pissed because I found this leak one day after I had the oil changed and tires rotated, I thought they would have seen it when rotating the tires and seeing the oil all over my wheel and break dust cover.

I now have an appointment with my Ford dealer to have it looked at.

should I mention to them that this is a common problem?

is there a TSB or anything for this?

How many miles do you have on it? I would say drive it so they can see the leak. If they tear it apart before they have the parts your truck may be tied up for a while as parts are on backorder.

I have almost 27,000 miles on my truck.

I have put more than 500 miles on it since I noticed the leak and cleaned it.

I would make sure they can see that it's leaking. Otherwise it's like we can't tell it's leaking & Ford won't warranty a repair without a leak. I know when they tell me my parts are in I am going to make sure they have everything they need. Ain't leaving my truck sit there waiting for parts.

While waiting for repairs did you take the ranger home and drive it for all that time or did you have loaner?

I couldn’t take mine home. Too much rear end vibration. It wasn’t just a little oil leak.

I drove it for 3 months while waiting for parts. Mine did not exhibit any vibration though. Ended up putting somewhere around 9,000 miles between when they ordered parts 4/19/21 and when they finally arrived and were installed 7/30/21. Even did some heavy towing but I made sure to top off the differential beforehand.

Fwiw, the axle will get low enough where it won’t leak anymore so you have two options.

go in and tell them it was leaking and if you have a good dealer they will fix it

or

fill it back up and drive it around until it leaks enough to be seen. Then do the above.

mine leaked out and ruined my brake pads and rotor as well which required I wait longer for parts…
