The new Dana axles are SOOO good if you could just get them to stop making shitty parts for them.WAAAYYYY too much horsepower to turn and weight to haul. 8.8 is more the size but still would use too much horsepower.
You got lucky, my dealer can’t even look at my truck for another 5 weeks.I just joined the leaking axle club. Last week I went to install the Fox 2.0 leveling kit. Stqrted with the rear shocks and found the passenger side axle leaking. Took it to the dealer and they confirmed it'll need a new axle. Same unknown lead time on the axle. They're providing a rental car via enterprise until it's repaired. Bummer as I just installed the Ford performance tune the day before...
Damn. Sounds like a shitty dealer. I didn't even have to ask for a rental. They just said I'd need one and set it up. Enterprise actually gave me a Ranger for a rental. 2WD though. You got lucky, my dealer can’t even look at my truck for another 5 weeks.
I hope they can supply me with a rental car.
I hope I’m not damaging my truck by driving it.
I'm making sure mine is clean before I leave when it's done. Not leaving the lot unless it's clean.Just got my truck back. Only took about two weeks. I crawled under to look at the axle and either they didn't clean the old oil of or its leaking again already. Looks awfully shiny. I cleaned it off and will monitor for additional leaks.
Good luck to the rest of you guys that are waiting.
What parts will be replaced on your ride? Hoping you say drivers rear axle.Parts are in. Goes in the 31st for repair, soonest they good get it in. As busy as all these dealers seem to be they must be making a fortune in repair work. Will keep you all posted on how it goes.
Correct drivers side rear. What parts will be replaced on your ride? Hoping you say drivers rear axle.

reason I was mad about the machining is that they machined them already the first time I took it in for brake issues. I’m going to degrease the axle and watch it for leaks.
it could have been worse, they could have slapped it full of permatex and sent me on my way.
Jim can you have someone drive your truck slow (maybe in a parking lot) and you could walk beside it to see if you can hear where it's coming from? At least you might be able to pin point the area and get it back home and look from there.Sorry for digging up an old thread, but I am trying to diagnose an issue with my Ranger.
I have a rubbing/scraping/dragging kind of sound when the truck is in motion, forward or reverse, it sounds like something brake related but when I pulled the wheels the rotors were smooth with no real grooves dug into them. It seems to drive normally, and while I haven't seen any oil inside my rims I will go back out and clean the stone shields and calipers to see if I missed a small leak.
Appreciate any input, thanks.
