 Ok, let's not get carried away now Peter! There's many other things you can do to punish yourself like watching reruns of That Girl or abstaining from sex for a month but never remove your damper. That's just bad Juju!!:devil:
Thanks for talking sense into me Dave. Removing the TG damper - what was I thinking. Might as well remove my liver. Maybe I will watch Gilmore girls or Grey’s anatomy as punishment. I almost thought of getting rid of my 303 as well but that would be just ridiculous?

IMO, no harm, no foul if you learned something from the mistake and experience.

No idea, my mechanical knowledge is pretty much non-existent. I envy all you handy chaps on here.
Edit to add: also, I don't know if that's true, but it's what they said and it did seem to explain the sputtering movement...
Seen this more time than I can count. What they did was pull out your old air filter creating a lot of debris to go upstream towards the MAF (mass air flow) sensor and contaminate the hotwire.
Just a tiny bit of fuzz on that makes the engine run like crap in which you found out.

Hi Folks,

Well....what a joke...Quick Lane... I guess 4 hours is quick to our local dealer. I had to schedule a month out to get an oil change. I cringed as I do my own work, but this great (otherwise) extended warranty requires a "professional" business changes the oil. CRAP! So I book a month out...no biggie as the truck only has 4200 miles on it and has had two previous oil changes done by me. So today was the time. Drop off time was 2pm. Wife followed me in the Nautilus and when I turned in the Ranger, we headed to the two block away sports bar for a beer or two and a Montana Burger....our favorite. So on beer number three of the two beers planned I get a phone call...The tech cannot check tire pressure due to my "funny" valve stem caps... My RV Tire Pressure Monitoring sensors. I tell the service writer that they are part of the RV TPMS so do not check the pressures. "Well, it is part of our service as most people do not know how to check tire pressures". I told her I did know, I was a Ford Engineer in Light Truck Engineering so I knew how to check pressures...just ignore the tire pressure check. "Well...Okay" So during beer 4 of the two beers planned I get a call to come get the vehicle...we are only 2 blocks away....So wife drives me to the dealer and heads home. Service writer is busy but sees me. Then finally walks over to me, sitting there bored and tells me the Tech is just finishing up with my Ranger? 45 minutes in on the promised 15 minutes to deliver the vehicle. Get the paperwork and head to the cashier...pay and bring receipt back to the Service Writer. Get the keys and out to the Ranger...Dealer does not wash it for customers...Hop in and crank up the motor....display shows the Left Front tire is low at 24 lbs...Strange but okay...will air it up at the house. Then it is down to 22...and then 20 followed by 18 and finally 15 when I pulled into the garage.????? WTF???? So jack up the vehicle left front with my floor jack and search the tire for a nail etc. Tire is okay....so further puzzlement... Pull the RV TPMS sensor which has an antitheft set screw needing a 1/8" allen head wrench. Aired up the tire...again checked. All was well. So I get what happened....the Tech tried to unscrew the sensor but the antitheft set screw prevented removal but did unseat the sensor and create an air leak. Arrrrrrg! I hate not being able to do my own work....

Best,
Phil
Maybe they should change the name to "Not So Quick Lane"? (However, to be fair, the Quick Lane at my Ford dealer is actually fast and mistake-free (so far)...

You’re going to hate me but just an example that there are some good dealerships out there. I booked last week for today at 10 am for Pa State Inspection / Emissions, Oil change and Tire Rotation. I walked in at 9:50, was promptly checked in, grabbed a coffee from them and then I walked over to Walmart for some miscellaneous stocking stuffers. Walked back into the dealership at 10:50, grabbed a water and sat down. 2 minutes later, the Service Advisor walked over to me to let me know I was done. I guess I have something to be thankful for. They’re a good bunch at my local dealer, I’ve been using them since 2009.
My Quick Lane experiences at my Delaware Ford dealer have been similar to yours, which just goes to show that there are huge differences among dealers. So, guys, shop around!

As someone else posted, when you book for early in the a.m. they are better at keeping it short. I book for 8 a.m. at the large dealer down south and they do the Works in about an hour. I use them for my Escape Hybrid. I still do my Ranger at home. Sort of half in and half out, so to speak.

At the point I take my Ranger to a dealer or anyone else to change the oil just chuck me in the ground cause I am done. Too many bad experiences to ever risk it again.

It's to bad there are so many bad dealers and companies out there now. I would definitely be doing my own if I didn't have a shop I could 100% trust working on mine.

When I stopped going to the dealer I went to my local Firestone who had done my oil changes on my Tacoma. They were always good and neat but they must have had a new employee because the one they did on my Ranger was bad. There was oily hand prints all over my hood and when I got home there was oil dripping all over the garage floor because they didn't clean up underneath. Needless to say that was the last time I've been there. Luckily I was referred to my local Brakes Plus by someone who's had work done there and was very happy with them. It's sad many don't take pride in their work anymore.

Yeah my last bad experience was last year when I had to drive to California the next morning because my mom was in the hospital. Took my Ram to jiffy lube while I was getting ready to go. Four hours later I got a mess back, they had flipped the oil filter and poured oil everywhere, oil tracks on my carpet mats, left everything dirty. That was my last outsourced oil change. Looking forward to the Ranger change, Ram was a beast holding 12 quarts.

As an electrical contractor I do work for a couple of dealerships. All of the oil change personnel are young unskilled workers.I’ve watched how they treat the vehicles and personally had damage done to a couple vehicles taken in for service. The service department isn’t going to waste an experienced mechanic on a $60 job.

The problem in Tucson area is that ALL the Ford dealers are under the same ownership. No way to shop around unless I want to go 50+ miles to another city. I suspect that is the case for a lot of medium sized cities.
