Hi there-

this question is for someone who’s familiar with Forscan and is a tech or engineer..

I disabled auto stop/start with Forscan today , I just wanted to make sure I won’t face any unintentional consequences for doing so.

my method was disabling “bcm/auto stop start” under the BCM module..

Under my fuel economy on my instrument cluster, one of the options says “auto startstop engine charging” is that normal? It’s not over charging and taxing my alternator is it? Should I be worried about the computer sending misinformation to my battery or charging system?
or am I all good?

thanks so much !

I have the same question, wondering if this will cause any negative effects on the battery / charging system.

Found an interesting site here regarding “auto startstop engine charging”

tl;dr you may just need to reset the bms module

There is a thread here where a member bought a cheap 2 pack of plug in LED nights, plugged one in the 12V outlet, and it took care of his start/stop system. I bought a pack, plugged one in, and danged if it didn't work. I can't describe exactly how it works, but the small power draw tricks the system into thinking the parameters haven't been met for the system to stop the engine. I found them at Wally World. Same thing, same price.

I've done this from day one and it's the cheapest way to disable the A/S/S. Any draw on the system will disable it and the LED nightlight is just enough to do it. It will stay on for about 20 minutes after you shut the truck off. Also if the light bothers you just black it out with some spray paint. :)

It sure beats paying 85 bucks for that thing they are selling to eliminate the auto start/stop.

Sure does and with the saving you can buy a damper and still have money left over. :bandit:

That is a good article. Thanks for sharing it. I wish we could have every system explained to that much detail. Once again Forscan to the rescue.

Hmm this is strange. I installed an led nightlight and it disabled my stop/start just fine, until recently following airport duty I discovered one of the suitcases had knocked the nightlight out of the socket. I plugged the nightlight back in and it still works, but now stop/start is only disabled for the first stop following startup, after that it is enabled again. Anyone had this experience?

I mentioned this before (and was slightly derided for it lol) but I disabled my A/S/S with a rechargable booster/battery pack for jumping dead cars. I have it stashed under my seat and I carry that instead of booster cables now.

If any of you are tuned....your tuner should be able to turn off the A/S/S as well.

So how's that working out? Sounds like a good idea to me. I don't really need to disable the A/S since I installed an auto start module that just allows the sys to remember its last state. My battery booster is under the rear seat, but I fear I will forget to keep it charged and if I ever need it it will be dead.

I've disabled Auto Start/Stop via Forscan - Along with close to a dozen other alterations. No issues to date - I highly recommend going this route as Forscan address so many other choices one can make. My Story .. ..

I've had to use it a few times and always has a full charge. It IS from Harbor Freight so I don't expect it to last forever but its going strong for the last 3 years with no issues.
