For me, I plan on the Ford Performance tune, sometime next year. I hear it does great with towing. I'll have to have it installed at a Ford Performance dealership. The dealer I bought my truck from provides a lifetime powertrain warranty and states that that tune will not void warranty if installed by Ford dealer.

Here's my opinion.

Don't bother.

I considered it and then found out that they all *may* reduce your warranty. Even the ford tune *may* eliminate the 5 year power train warranty. Some here refute that. It's all how you read it, and if ford honors it.

I just installed the EVC throttle controller, to sort of smooth out the throttle. I do think the peddle is delayed.

Do I like the throttle controller? Not really. Anything except the level 1 setting just seams too much, to me. All I wanted is for it to not lag. What I got was it jammed the throttle down and sent me on a rocket ride when all I wanted was to not be delayed. I guess at level 1 it did want I want, but for $200 am I willing to spend that for nearly nothing? I'm thinking I will return it, assuming they honor the 30 day no-questions-asked return.

No opinion needed! If you tune your vehicle outside of fords tune you eliminate power train warranty. I think the Ford Perforance tune moves the warrant form Ford to Ford Performance. Some tunes include warranty or you can pay extra for one. Or you can be an adult and realize if you modify a car it is on you.

To be clear, I believe that’s just the standard warranty. If you have an extended one thru Ford it will void it out even with their tune

I tend to agree with folks like @Doc Do what you want to your truck!

I was looking at an SCT BDX Tuner, just because I could get one of their 3 different warranty packages... Although, I also heard getting ahold of someone at SCT was tough.

That's why I'm thinking about using the Unleashed tune on the BDX tuner. I might check to see if they have a warranty plan too, but unsure?

I'm also somewhat interested in Superchips tuner. They're almost done with their new tuner for the '21 Ranger, so I may look into that :)

I've done almost all the performance mods to my truck already, with the exception of a bigger turbo and a tune. I honestly think if you don't treat your truck like a POS, you shouldn't have any issues with it. My truck will reach the year warranty limit way before it reaches the miles and I'm glad I can fix things myself :)

I am very happy with the unleashed tunes for my truck. Improved shifting and smooth power.

Yes even more so with extended warranty. Warranty’s are for unmodified cars.

the dealership can check to see if your PCM has been flashed and can check key cycles and a host of other things. They normally have no reason to check this unless there is an issue related to the drivetrain or PCM.

Me personally, I don’t try to hide the fact my truck is tuned. I’m just honest with my dealership. They knew My 2017 GT was full bolt on and tuned on E85. They never gave me any issues with it even when my clutch went out and I broke an axle. The service manager said he appreciated my honesty and was willing to work with me.

A good relationship with your service dept goes a long ways.

Well, I called the warranty company that covers the lifetime powertrain warranty provided by the dealer when I bought the Ranger to clarify another concern and also asked about the Ford Performance tune. They repeated that if installed by a Ford dealer it would not void the warranty as long as I maintained the vehicle with the required service schedule. The way that sounds to me is that even if the 60/60k manufacture warranty on the engine is voided and becomes limited to only a 36/36k warranty the lifetime will kick in at that time.
