Ok...back to my favorite subject...NOT!!!...I'm at roughly 30K miles on the replacement 10R80...which version I don't know but I'm hoping since it was done in late 2023, that's what I have...none the less, it's been running just fine with occasional momentary dead spot shifting into 4 or 5th when driving off with everything cooled...only happens once if it does so I'm not concerned...it's still on warranty...

Thought it would be a good idea to pre-emptively refresh the fluid...However, I ran into a few notable issues:

1-I used a standard 1/4" plastic hose from hardware store...while inserting the tube down MBS dipstick housing, it would catch on something sharp...probably the lower fitting's throat...this worried me as it difficult to un-catch and I can tell it's scrapping the tubing...what if the tube broke when I try to get it out?!?!?! God no...don't go there!!!

Does anyone know of a suitable tubing to use that could resist bending and catching on sharp edges?

2-although I measure the distance of the dipstick to gauge where about the tube would enter the fluid level, I was still not certain pushing further would reach the bottom or the tube would end up surfacing above the level after it hit bottom...only trial and error could I find a level to suck fluid...

3-my pump didn't have enough power to draw against the gravity holding the fluid from sump to the top of the engine where the pump was so the whole process took several hours...

In the end, I only manage to evacuate 4.5 quarts with this pump through the dipstick method...I think my next shot at this (around 60K) will involve a PPE trans pan install with drain plug and filter replacement...

Since pumping out the fluid proved to be challenging, pumping it back in was not likely...soooo...this was the perfect time to try out the dipstick funnel prototype I designed and 3D printed for MBS...I wasn't sure to trust the PLA print material against ULV so I let it sit in the old fluid for 20 minutes as a test...it seemed to hold up so that's what I used...still wouldn't trust this material other than I had no other choice...none of my funnels would work...it did prove the design worked flawlessly...didn't even need an O-ring, Mike...?

How did you get the red Tremor nostrils going on the Raptor grill? Painted yourself? Love the truck

Oh ok sweet that sounds easier than painting. Your thread here is very much appreciated from a newbie perspective haha
I appreciate that...if you like, go to page one where I've done a crappy job of listing a directory...going to and update but start there and go through every page and I think you'll find it interesting...

Well folks…after 40 years, I am now within 190 days of retiring from my day job as an Automotive Designer...and I'll have the time to get back outdoors...

I've shown my Moon Boot projects a few pages back in 2023 and you folks here made me aware that Radica has a similar product already out on the market, the Moon Lander...coincidentally similarly named...

Recently, I've thought long and hard about the pros and cons of either buying the Radica or continue to design/build my version...they've also recently introduced a larger version named MLX...I've reconstructed both of their models based on the incomplete dimensions I was able to obtain...in the end, I've decided to continue my personal project based on these key reasons:

1-Price! ML speced out to my needs comes out to around $12k and the MLX at around $14k plus shipping and taxes…I estimate I can easily build mine for under $5k and pay for material as I go.

2-Dimensions! Radica products would exile Msfitoy out of the garage permanently due to my 7’ garage restriction (as well as any parking garage, drive through or car washes). My Moon Boot is specifically sized to OAH (on truck) to be at 81” leaving 2” to spare for load variance...and no, nothing else out there such as GFC or like will fit under a standard garage...

3-Aerodynamics! My current best MPG is around 17-18…ML would put a big dent to that, and the MLX would just about destroy it…I’m optimistic that Moon Boots’s low profile and optimized wedge shapes might break even or improve my MPG slightly.

4-Amenities! Both Radica’s cap are just that, caps…leaving all other cracks and hole of the bed to allow dust/water intrusion if not separately addressed with seals…Moon Boot will be a traditional “drop in” so it will be fully contained with enough internal space for 2 x Eco Flow Delta 2, storage, fridge, seating, diesel heater, Porta Poti and just about everything needed for a solo camper…fan and AC will be mounted through rear wall…200w solar on roof.

It'll be cozy but not cramped…

Congrats!, now you will be really busy!

I very much agree about the height and aero, keep going with yours, who knows... there might be some members here who might just want one!

PS, the design job on the funnel gets great reviews!!
