So I'm having a bit of trouble with the ranger I have a 2020 xlt Latest issue is and it only happened once so far but I came back from a fishing spot and tried to unlock the truck .The key fob would not work so I got in with the key with the key and the truck had no power it didn't register me opening the door. I put the key in nothing happened I turned the key it did nothing I also could not get the car and Neutral. So I proceed to call roadside assistance because nothing was wrong with the battery Halfway through our conversation I hear the truck power come back on and it started fine. .if anybody has any insight please let me know The terminals are fine the fuse is fine so Not those. 2nd problem I had tires rotated since I have a squealing sound sound that happens after I reach over 30 miles an hour it almost sounds like a belt noise but it is not the engine it's coming from the back right wheel area The noise starts after 30 miles an hour And squeaks Repeatedly while I'm driving. Sorry for the long Post but I've already taken it to the dealer with no results Please help and thank you for it

Sounds like it dying was just a glitch as it's happened to a few others here before. Some have had to disconnect the battery for a few minutes to rest things. Do you drive it all the time or does it sit for several days? Also when driving is it a short commute? I always have a battery maintainer connected if I'm not going to be driving mine for a day or two. Most of my jobs are local and within 10-15 minutes so the battery doesn't get a good charge. The heat does a number on these batteries and I've already had a battery replaced under warranty in the first 18 months so it's a good idea to have that checked.

Funny, I had a similar experience this weekend. Went and filled up some Jerries with boat gas, auto shops were closed on Sunday’s so I stopped at my local Walmart to pick up some mix oil for the ol 2 smoke. When I came back out nothing, I can’t remember if I locked the doors or not but when I opened the door no splash screen no nothin, tried turning the keys in the ignition nothing. I’m an electrician by trade so I grabbed my multimeter from the truck and had 12.9 volts across the battery terminals. I tried locking and unlocking the door thru the key lock, then decided to go buy a pair of pliers from Walmart (had a fluke multimeter but no wrenches or pliers ?epic fail) plan was to disconnect the battery for 15 min let it do its thing and go from there. When I came back out of Walmart I tried the fob and the truck honked a few times cuz I had the hood partially up. Fired the ol girl back up and drove home.

I had the same thing happen to me. One morning I go to start the truck, completely dead. No lights on, dings, dash lights, etc. just plain dead. Used a voltmeter and battery was 12.8-12.9 so I figured it had plenty of juice. I ended up disconnecting my negative for about 2 minutes and reconnecting. She came back to life. I used forscan a few days later and changed my battery charge from 75% to 90% percent. I haven’t had the issue since, but I do carry a 10mm wrench now in my front door pocket just in case lol

I've seen this issue posted a few times. To my knowledge nobody has found a cause. Can't think of anybody who has seen this repeatedly.

Yeah same here. I’ve seen a few people on here with the issue, but no one knows what caused it. My only guess is because I have a ham radio plugged in directly into battery and because it still uses very little power even when off, the truck shut itself down to preserve the battery. That’s the only thing I can think of since I didn’t have the issue till after installing the ham radio

Could be.

Seems like most electrical gremlins in our trucks are battery related.

I can't help you with the squeaking problem, but I definitely know I've seen other people complain about noises coming from the bed area before and they ultimately found the cause and fixed it. There is a chance someone else had the same problem so it may be worth using the google search feature to see what other "squeaking" and noises people have complained about.

Hi Adam,

I think you squeal is the driveshaft center bearing...dealer needs to be involved....seems the driveshaft supplier, Dana had a bad batch of bearings from their supplier. Other Forum members have reported similar malady's that were resolved by the replacement of the center bearing.

No clue on this phantom electrical shut down... I would recommend you file a formal complaint with Ford. We need to get this phantom shut down understood and fixed.... I would recommend you have your battery tested to ensure it is of capacity...not just voltage... Likely you need a battery replacement....My take is that there is a threshold setting that is causing the problem but no concrete understanding of the Ranger's complete electrical system for me....

Best,
Phil

These trucks must hate fishing...It happened to me. I parked by my friends boat slip. A few hours later it wouldn't start or do anything. I started to jump it but everything came back to life. It hasn't done it again.

A few have talked about carrying a 10mm wrench to pull the ground to reset the battery module. I wonder what would happen if I tried starting it through the app, it that would have woke it up.

This happened to me today at 2800 miles. I drive every day but not far, but should be enough to keep things charged after 6 months of the same routine. Came out of the store and truck was cold dead. Luckily had the NOCO charger. Hooked it up and after about 30 seconds it came back to life. I’m gonna have my oil done before I head up north for the season at the end of the month and have them check the battery while it’s there.
