I can’t offer advise on what‘s causing the problem, but I believe I would have taken it back to the well known off road mechanic first since the timing would seem to suggest that it’s related to the install, in which case Ford won’t likely warranty it. Could be as simple as a sensor becoming disconnected.
Hi Andrew,

I had a similar problem when I installed my flat tow base plates. Front parking sensor connector fell apart. My take, not properly connected at the assembly plant.

Best,
Phil

I got a low battery warning when I dropped it off at the dealership. Would this aid to the issue?

Your main front sensor (box) was down low where the winch was put. So that had to be relocated and reaimed. Wire will be short on that harness for doing that. Did you have front parking sensors (4) in your old bumper?

It seems enough “tech” is inoperable so it’s putting you in limp mode. Curious also of how the winch was wired in. If not done right it messes up the intelligent battery monitoring system.
Yes, I had the front parking sensors relocated.

Low battery voltage causes many issues on these. That may account for the limp mode.

This low battery issue points to what Rick is suggesting regarding the winch wiring and the BMS. Also, as Rick and others are hinting, your “sputtering” might be from the truck putting itself in “limp mode” because of too many tech codes being thrown.

There could be a lot going on so your guy has a lot to check…
  • ACC unit relocation
  • ACC unit re-calibration/aiming
  • Damaged/disconnected parking assist bumper sensors
  • Proper wiring of winch
  • Proper wiring of fog lights
  • Damaged/disconnected fog light harness
  • Damage to other harnesses
Or, it’s a total coincidence and none of the above. ?

Fingers crossed that it all goes well. ?

I haven’t even set up the FordPass app. :D Haven’t even downloaded it. Clearly, no FOMO here. :)

I have updates. Good news!

Ford dealership called back today. Called and said that the turbo sensor/turbo was unplugged and not reattached properly. So, they’ve reattached it and it runs much much better now. Thanks for everyone for helping me out!

I don't know about you guys; but when I install bumpers - I always unplug turbo sensors.

What in the world; but glad it is fixed.

Also; good on the dealer for not being shitheads and trying to upsell you on something random. I had a Honda go in for a recall on the brake master cylinder. The van immediately went into limp home mode and was pretty much idling around. Code; Throttle body. Me "Did you plug it back in after doing the master?" Them "It is on the other side of the motor" and that is when I freaking lost it. That TB is right in front of the brake system on that rig. It was the damn plug, but they tried to sell me a throttle body instead of simply reseating the plug.

Kinda like having LOTS of gas in your CRV’s 3.7 qt oil pan & them trying to sell you a Cabin Temperature Control unit to fix it. Why? Well, why not?
