So, on my 2021, finally got around to installing the PPE pan, changing filter and oil. Any real down side to not reinstalling the flimsy metal shields? I read on other forums Ford only put them on b/c they were having to warranty too many of the plastic pans because of warping. Figure PPE is way better for cooling in any event.

I think it’s more to divert heat from the CAT away from the transmission, not so much for pan protection. CAT heating the transmission fluid. It get pretty hot at that point / area. If you have done a fluid level check with the OE stick, you will note this - very quickly.

Yes, only takes a second. Got my MBS stick on order. :D Wonder if you can wrap that part of the cat/exhaust with some good header tape and accomplish the same thing?

I wouldn't insulate the CAT. The higher temps inside it may destroy it.

Count on 3-4 hours. Draining and cleaning probably the longest part of the process, along with the fill. MBS will greatly shorten the later.

That reminds me of what happened with 1958 Edsel's equipped with Teletouch. (push button automatic) Mechanics would toss the heat shield.

I wondered the same, but put them back.

This.

'It looks better' is not a valid reason to shed more heat into the fluid. Might be miniscule, but still.

Just measure what came out as a base and go slow on adding after that, but watch the back of the hand and that dang CAT. Once the new dipstick is here and installed, will be so much easier next time and easy pump out of go too fast on the fluid.

I just checked my PPE trans pan that the dealer installed and yes they installed the shield on the passenger side near the cat.
