Hi Galvir,

Nope on the worry. If you have push button start, then this feature might get in the way if you try to update your Sync and need to idle the engine for over 2 hours to get the darn software to load. You have to disable the feature before you do an extended idle or the engine shuts off. This is not the only miss in this owner's manual.

Hi Think you are okay, but your owner's manual will have a place for push button start vehicles which is likely why you got message.

Called my local Dealer...no answer at Service...left a message...no return call. Local Green Valley Ford dealer...typical... Poor Service....will try Horne Ford in Nogales tomorrow....

I just did my update on a long drive. Why idle for hours?

It seems like Ford didn't expect USB updates by owners to be that common. OTA updates don't seem to require this much hand-holding.
While this is veering off-topic, I’d be curious how many people actually DO perform an update out of the amount of owners who CAN update. Wouldn’t surprise me if it’s a pretty low’ish percent.

I know I hadn’t even thought of it with my ‘17 Escape, and it only came to light after coming here.

Now to see which one I try the updates with first to be the guinea pig, the Escape or the ‘19 Ranger... thinking the Escape should be my test vehicle but the wife would not be a happy camper if I messed that up ?

I opened up Fordpass today and its telling me there's a new recall. I've tried googling this but I have no idea what it means? Anyone else get this?

I had the same question. Called Ford customer service and no help. Called 2 different dealers and here is the status: This is not a recall nor a notice for service to be performed nor anything that needs to be done on the vehicle. It is a physical insert to be placed in your owners manual and relates to additional information about the Auto Stop/Start feature. Ford will mail this insert to Ranger owners. "keep on truckin."

Hi Chris,
It's not too off-topic since updating is one of the main uses for extended idling . My guess is that you're right. Very few people would even keep their PCs updated except that Microsoft now forces you to (for Windows 10 systems)!

If you check out some of the update threads, the USB updates have unfortunately been fraught with issues, idling engines shutting off being only one of them. It's kind of a shame because unlike PCs, it's a closed ecosystem with very few variations and they should be able to get it clean. It's one of the very few negative experiences I've had with the new truck.

I would say do it, but definitely read through the threads first, it may save you some headaches and some time.

I would also add that I would recommend doing the update on a long(er) drive instead of idling in the driveway. If you plan on a taking a trip of 60-90 minutes just do it while you are driving. That is how I did it this last time.

Hi Paul,

I called Ford Customer Service and they said no more mailings. Gotta go to the Dealer. So I called my POS local dealer and got a fellow that knew the drill....I stopped by today and he handed me a computer printer printed page to insert in the manual and then took the FSN off my vin....What a crock!

We did this dealer visit on the way to Home Depot as wife decided that we are changing kitchen faucets to update to the HGTV shows latest fashion is Black faucets for sink and Reverse Osmosis....Out about $500 and a plumbing job tomorrow...Seesh!

Good point. That's also what I did. Reading the threads will tend to push you in that direction as well. Definitely check out the update threads for full info, but for some people the map update has taken 2 hours so you may want to budget that much time for it.

Allow me top qualify this a bit.

The EIS has NOT shut off. I've read the Owner's Manual, I have read that section of the repair manual, so I have an appreciation of when it works, and doesn't work. Even if you turn everything off but the EIS, no matter what you do, the engine doesn't shut down. And, as I said, never has.

I had an opportunity to speak to the salesman who sold the truck, and his comment? "I'm not surprised. None of them I've ever driven have either." Perhaps it is the 3,500 foot altitude?

Okay so if no one's done this yet just go to your local dealership all they have to do is print out a piece of paper for the owner's manual hand it to you and they get paid 0.2 hr per vehicle on this. Not much but something.

Just went to the dealer and they installed the new page in my manual. MAN this truck runs great now! Easily added 10-15hp! It's no tailgate damper but wow!*
