i have a 2021 supercab. so 2 doors. i noticed since new a sort of rattle noise but lower bass, almost like how a turkey call sounds, when going over slightly bumpy roads or when i close the passenger side door. i can hear the noise more outside around the back glass area of the back window when i close the passenger side door than i can hear it inside over bumpy roads. it seems to be the same noise just different whether you are inside or outside. I really need to get a helper to close the door as i search but it's not my tonneau cover or anything in the bed. it's almost like it's in the body/frame of the truck between the bed and back window.

any thoughts?

taking it to the dealer for this will result in "could not duplicate issue", even if i point it out to them, so thought i would try myself. Next step is to crawl under neath and listen while i have someone open/close the door......

i was going to say check the jack and tire tools to be sure they are not clunking around but it would not make the sound you described. maybe have a look under the truck and see if a shock or rubber bushing may be loose or grumpy.

On my scab if I don't close the short door firmly while gripping at the top of the door edge when closing I can get a rattle sound. I think it helps the upper latch catch completely.

it's louder outside the truck. but i did check the jack and all snug. it's got to be something underneath loose. maybe an exhaust hanger or something....

You will probably need to pull the door card off and inspect the door and see if there's an unsecured harness or cable knocking around in there. It's also possible that they dropped a tool or something into the door during assembly and that's rattling around when the door gets shut. I have seen the latter more than once so it's a distinct possibility.

I had a similar issue. Sounded like a flat of water bottles in the back seat. Found the rubber between the cab and the bed was squeaking. Cleaned it out and sprayed with silicone lube and it went away. Could also be heard when closing the doors. Only happened when really cold (-20c or lower)

as you close the front passenger side door and as soon as it closes, and if you look in between the cab and the bed, there is some sort of flapper thing that flaps open from the air pressure of closing the door. that seems to coincide with the noise. i'm going to check the drivers side for same. also, i am going to remove everything from the back of the cab, there isn't much, and then open up the storage box under the seat- i removed the rear seat bottoms when i first got truck- and also see about removing the box to take a look back there.

the flapper noise/device reminds me of something a house has for say the dryer vent or what i picture as a house vent stack flap. i seem to hear it closing the door but also while driving slowly especially in reverse down my concrete driveway. weird. it very well could be the flapper as it both inside and outside the cab?

Just a general response but you don't have to listen too hard to hear noises (road noise, wind noise, random squeaks, buzzes, rattles) in these cabs. I'm trying to learn to live with them but might reach the point where something's got to be done. Not quite there yet.

my 2007 xterra i have had since she rolled off the dealer lot new back in late 2006 makes not one single rattle. and she has right under 150k miles on her.. they don't make them like they used to. I paid 26k for her back then new. so that's about the same as i paid for my new ranger this past june with inflation adjusted ~35-36k USD.

the x was built in smyrna Tennessee. not japan.

maybe it's a ford thing? that's ok, i love Fiona still...
